This is why I don't use E-bay

I have bought a lot of stuff off eBay with good success. I prefer Amazon if it is new, but you can’t find a lot of used stuff on Amazon.

Like any auction, you have to know what stuff is worth and know your maximum. I only buy from established folks with good feedback. I think it is a lot safer than Craig’s list.

A lot of the problems are because you are dealing with the general public which has a good selection of morons, charlatans and criminals. That is not exclusive to eBay.

A lot of people may disagree with me but, I think eBay is a great source for stuff if used wisely.

You win some you loose some thats what I enjoy about Ebay! I do my research so that I don't over pay and once I reach my max I'm done! I let them fools have it! I have got alot of stuff and a very good price. I have got burnt a time or two also. I have had very good luck selling stuff too. I bought a old wore out shotgun from a guy at work for 25 bucks I needed one part of it. I disassembled it kept the part I needed and sold the rest of the parts individually on Ebay. I made enough to pay for a complete rifle build!

For me bidding on Feebay is like bidding at an auction, horse, farm, whatever,... I decide what it is worth to me and that is my final bid, period. Otherwise you are open to heartache!!??? lol
Sort of like buying a part on here, I have to decide what it is worth to me including shipping. If it works for me and the seller, we have a sale!

eBay can be good and bad. I understand the frustration of being outbid in the last few seconds of an auction, like you can do with those bidding software apps. Good advice to bid your max, and walk away and not think about it. If you get it, great. If not, no big loss.

I guess I mostly use it to buy shop supplies, and replacement parts from established vendors that sell on eBay. Once in a while though an awesome deal can pop up, like when I found a NOS right fender for my '69 Cuda late one Sunday night on an auction that just appeared. I couldn't hit the 'buy it now' fast enough!

I admit I have made some buys on parts I needed at a fair price occasionally.
I have also just pm ed the seller and said, hey I will give you XX$ even though he had no make offer deal.
I check prices on all vendors, be it Feebay or the mainstream stores.

I do fairly well manually sniping.

That's really the only way to use ebay unless you BIN, best offer, or over pay.

If you click on the "x bids" where x is the number of bids, you can see how many bids were placed and when they were placed. This will tell you if someone placed a really high bid early, or if lots of bids were placed seconds apart.

I don't see any point to shill bidding unless someone lists and sells enough volume to justify the time and expense of shill bidding to get maximum price on the items they do sell.

Geez, i don't wan't to throw more gasoline onto this fire, and create a big fighting match in regard to this tools auction.
That bid price was a fluke, abnomoly, what it sold for, with two people in the end, getting into it.
Something like that ain't gonna happen again, the way that i see it.
Whenever i try and sell an old tool, nothing like that ever happens to me, in my favor, for a high dollar price.
Now, knowing what one sold for, i sure would like to find out the second highest bidder on that tool, and sell him one of the two tools like that, i have in my toolbox.
Would i be wrong in trying to be a capitalist, and see if one want's it bad enough, to purchase it from me?
Like i said, i have two of them, as i have been buying, using, factory Miller Special Tools from the early 1970's when i owned a 71 Cuda new, ordered from the factory.

Let's have a look at the bid history shall we-

looks like c**t was really interested but got outbid by r**t who placed his bid 30 seconds earlier

r**t bid a kind of an odd amount don't you think?

looks like c**t also placed a bid the previous day

we don't know h**n's max bid (but we do the max bids for r**t and c**t)

I'd bet the listing ended at 7:00, and h**n's bid was at 6:59:54, six seconds before the end.

technically, someone could still get a bid in and if it was higher than h**n, could win.

looks like 4**4 also tried a few times close to the end

Note that the bids are in order from high to low, and not from last to first chronologically.

Last year I tried bidding on roller lifters. There was about 10 different sets. I tried snipping but that didn’t happen. I placed automatic bids to a certain dollar amount. Every time I was out bid by a buck or two. Since then I haven’t bought anything from there. Kim

Are you For real? At 10% of the original value, your saying the tool cost $2,890.00 NEW?
Facetiously, yes. More a jab about how they're stupid-expensive to begin with, which means resale prices also remain stupid-high.

This is why I like Gunbroker's 15 minute rule.

If I'm a seller.

I don't have a problem with eBay.Its like anywhere else,if it's too much don't buy it.I got lots of good deals on there so no complaints here!

You can often see shill bidding. In the posted list of bidders you can click on the moniker h***n of the winning (or any) bidder and their bid history will pop up. The defining statistic is "% of bids with this seller". If it's above 50-60% it's likely a scam. If it's 100% it is absolutely a shill. You can do this even after the sale ends as the info is still there for 30-60? days. I agree with others that Ebay is a funny marketplace. I have gotten decent deals on items I could not find elsewhere but often sellers are asking way to much due to inflated ideas of value. What is a seller thinking when they list an individual chrome lug nut for $12.95 plus $7.35 shipping when there are a half dozen other sellers selling sets of 20 of the same lug nut for $14 and free shipping. It makes me go huh?

I think I stil have some tail light lenses in the trunk of the Dart that are NOT '72 Dart compatible from ebay. They are Mopar though :BangHead:. Shortly after that escapade I did find the proper lens @ ebay. It's a crap shoot sometimes.
