Not that you should or shouldn't get one from Dan (You should:D) but just out of curiosity measure vertically between the contacts on the main switch unit that the spring wires on the back of the part you bought contact, and then measure the spring wires.
My new POS had to have the contact wires slightly bent because it did the exact same thing yours did when I put it in.
I think I had to bend the wire ends closer together, but it works perfect now.
