My car was working well after the transmission rebuild but I am not one to leave well enough alone. I added a higher stall convertor and 4.10 gears for better track times. I only maybe drove it 100 miles since the convertor change and it started leaking like crazy from the inspection cover. I pulled the motor to repair this leak and some other leaks on the motor as well.

I'm not sure what I was expecting but the front of the pump is dry except for a drop of fluid on 1 bottom pump bolt. The convertor is wet all around but the snout looks good. I'm thinking I must have screwed up the torque convertor seal when I slipped the new converter on. Could it be anything else?

Just from the description and what I see in the pictures it's very likely the seal.
Check that pump gear drive area of the converter hub REALLY close to make sure there isn't a crack.
Also note that some of us pack the back of the seal with assembly lube or Vaseline to insure the lip spring inside the seal doesn't pop out when installing seal.
If it did you should see it hanging around the trans input shaft behind the seal.
It (probably) didn't loose the spring when you installed the seal because they usually leak right away when that happens. (but not always)

The bushing is damaged. This trans was operated with low fluid level. That's what scuffed the converter.

If you replace the front seal, always replace the front bushing also. Other source of leaks= front pump bolts need to be sealed, does yours have a vent baffle on the top two pump bolts? This can be a source of a leak. On the back of the engine check the cam plug, oil galley plugs and the rear main seal. Good luck.

I just had Trans Torq go through it and up the stall before I put it in. I might as well take it back there for him to check it out though. I'm going to pull the seal and see what I can see. Will I be able to see the bushing with the seal removed?

Cley.

If you had someone do the trans and you are thinking to take it back don't do anything yourself.
Just take it back.

The convertor upgrade was a couple years after the trans rebuild. Nothing has many miles on it but the convertor was about 100 miles ago.

Just for giggles, i would make up a fitting, hose and clamps and pressure test convertor too. A few pounds of air and soapy water

I finally got around to pressuring up the converter to check for a leak. And what did I find? It was leaking around the snout. I took it back to the guy who nodded it for me and he built me a new one as warranty. I am in the process of putting everything back together now!

Fantastic! Glad you found it. I was GOING to recommend taking the converter to a machine shop and let them magnaflux all around the converter snout. That will show it up real quick like. But you found it. Good job!

I actually put the rubber cap that it was sent back to me with on the snout and pressured it up using a needle for filling a football.i saw bubbles right away!

Dammit boy! That was pretty smart. I wouldn't thought of that.

Funny cause I work at a machine shop and I never thought to bring it in and get it mag particle checked for free either!
