Went to install reverse light bezels only to find they don’t fit. There’s a gap between the bezel and the rear valance. I grabbed an original off the car and it fits great.

Am I missing something maybe a gasket of some kind? Thanks for the help

Painted bezels are new and don’t fit
Sandblasted bezel is original off the car and fits

Great Thankyou.
I’m not sure if there aftermarket or Oem. I purchased them from a member here. I’ll get those ordered

The more I look at the bezels, the new ones seem to have a bigger curve on bottom than stock????

Not that I recall. They were in epoxy primer when I bought them. If they don’t fit with the gaskets then your probably right

Those do not look like 67 or 69 Barracuda bezels. There were short and long versions.
My wild guess is B body.

Your valance has been reworked previously to fit 1962 valiant optional reverse light bezels that appear to fit in the one pic. The licence plate area on the valance looks to be creased inward, and the valance appears to be reworked. I will post pix of my 67 valance, and my chromed repop bezels. The ones i have for my 67 and my sons 69 look to have the same curvature as the black ones you have that dont fit. See pic below. it's a possibility that that car was rear-ended in a past life. Being these are easily broken, somebody probably had a set of 1962 valiant bezels and said, they are close enough so they made them fit.

Good call.
That panel seemed a little flattened
Compared to my 67.
And those stock reverse bezels looked kinda short...

Always something to learn from this forum....

I’ll get some side by side pics of the bezel that fits compared to the painted pieces. Maybe you guys can identify The bezel from a different model.

I will also take pix of my rear valance. Its OEM and has not been hit. Will match up one of my repop bezels to it and take pic from the side.

Heres pix. Rear valance is on my 1967 coupe. Its original paint that has to be redone, but is undamaged. Repop 1967 reverse light housings from classic industries. Are same contour as housings you have in black.

The valance pan is the same for all 3 years. 67 holes are drilled for 67 lights, 68s are undrilled, 69s are drilled for 69 lights, otherwise its the same stamping. Yes the holes drilled are different from 67 to 69. And yes i do know 67 and 69 housings are different. 69s being longer, 67s being shorter, however they have the same curve where they meet the valance.

AJ/formS are you aware that the 62 valiant also had an even shorter reverse light bezel than the 67 barracuda that was even flatter to mate to its rear valance. The lenses and light sockets of which will interchange into 67 and 69 barracuda recerse light housings.

I would know, i own a 67 and a 69. Its only because of the way each of these 2 years valances are drilled differently for their respective housings that housings do not interchange between the 2 years, otherwise they will fit if the valance is drilled correctly for them. As a matter of fact early build 69s used 67 reverse light bezels to use up leftover stock on the assembly lines, later 69s used the 69 specific bezels. The only difference in the valance stamping itself other than hole location is if it has dual exhaust cutouts.

I stick by my first statement. Somewhere early in that cars life it was struck from behind. 67 bezels probably couldent be found, and 62 valiant ones were used. The valance was reworked to accept the shape of the valiant reverse lights. I can go take pix of my kids 69 valance hole cutouts as its an original valance too.

Also how do i know the ones the OP has are for a 67?? Its because i sold the OP the black colored reverse light housings off my own 67 valance shown in blue in post #14, and they fit just fine on there. I wanted new chrome ones, so I bought new 67 repops. Same contour, they fit my valance just fine as well. Mine had not been hit and repaired. Its in its OEM shape. I would trust that its a more correct contour than something that was repaired especially since theres still a big punched in crease where the licence plate goes.

Anytime i have bought sheetmetal from AMD, that number 67 in the part number means this part starts at model year 67. It may say for 68-69 but will fit 67. Exceptions to this are duster rockers which do fit back to 67 on barracudas but were developed for 1970 up dusters and demons. The prefix on that part number is 70.

The 68-69 year deal in the pic is only because of the dual cutouts. Thats why it says 68-69. 67 didnt have dual cutouts but 68 and 69 did. Also it does mention you have to cut holes for 67 and 69 reverse lights.

There is a similar/same but different lamp fixture for mustangs too. The hole in the white painted panel shows a lip inside which suggests body filler. Good luck with it.

Heres 62 valiant NOS reverse light assy, along w part number. Your original off your car looks to be the same and may have same part number. They may be LH and RH specific, or could be just 1 part number for both sides on a valiant. Number would be odd for LH and even for RH if the valiant bezels were done that way. Do the lenses from your original housings say 62 on the lenses?
