There is no couth anymore. People advertise wanting something. You respond with what you have. Most don't even have the decency to answer you back with an answer either way. Some you have to make several attempts to reach them and get an answer. Very upsetting to another buyer, whom you put off because of waiting for an answer, along with your self if it causes a lost sale. Guess I'm just old school. Was raised with manners and respect. Am I out of line, and should just accept this is the "new modern" way of things.

Details man, or it is meaningless to post. Do we need to stay away from someone?

Why would you wait for a person who makes a single inquiry and fails to follow up?

First one with a serious offer and follows up to complete the sale wins. Anyone else is just browsing.

Period.

You snooze...you lose.

I have about 10 parts on CL and I can't count how many times I've had calls for the parts and then nothing. They agree on price and say I'll call and come by this weekend and zip. Calls for a car I have for sale and same thing. "I'm going to get my finances together and get back to you". ... crickets .. If your to embarrassed to call send a friggin email.

Same here. But shipping kills some deals. I always get: I didn’t realize u we’re in Canada. I can ship cheaper if u don’t want insurance and tracking if it’s a small package. Kim

I have a wanted ad for a grille for my truck over on FTO, and a guy says he's got one, sent me pictures a few days later. But every response from him was "Do you want it?" basically giving me the feeling he wanted my money in his hand already. I told him I'd go look at the one I have to compare, and when I told him I had one in about the same condition, and spending $400 to be in the same spot wouldn't make sense, he jumped all over me for wasting his time, and not saying what I wanted, and his was a beauty, etc. I clearly stated I would prefer mint or NOS in the ad, one of the first things I said.

As for CL ads, when I sell a car, the first person to CALL is the person who will buy. All others are texting fools who don't realize their phone, is a freakin' phone! Had a guy get mad at me that I wouldn't drive 125 miles for him to look at a $400 car I was selling. Sure pal.

I've had good luck with Facebook. I just listed a very rare O scale building kit I have had for years. It was sold within 24 hours. I've sold and bought several other things there, too.

I just hate how things get buried on FB. I'm not there much.

I hear you OP.
Many people now days have so much stimulation driven into thier heads from so many places (mostly their smart phone with 1200 apps running), that they cannot keep a train of thought for more then a few minutes...let alone remember that they initiated asking you a question about something and you took the time to respond.
I got a member on here, has inquired about nearly every post I made in the for sale section..I take the time to reply asap and then crickets.
I dont know what his angle is, why ask if your have no intention of following up, with even a "thanks no thanks." I wont respond to him any further, its a waste of MY time.

The original post was not meant for anyone specific person, just those in general that don't have the time to answer. If they took time to post the first time, read the response, how long to just write a simple "thanks, no thanks or make an offer." I feel society in general has caused a lot of this. Did not mean for this to get out of hand, was just spouting off an observation.

It's always frustrating when someone drops an ad here and disappears from the site for a day or two. :BangHead::BangHead:
:wtf: dude!

Never really had a issue here, lots of tire kickers yes but most seal the deal pretty quickly I only hold items for a day.
