Boss 302 myths

Boss ports were to large for low rpm's and that was the complaint back in the day. Also valves were 2.2 in that small displacement engine. It was like the Z/28 302 flat at low RPM's but when the thing was wound up it was deadly, and they wound up quickly. They both needed low ratio gears to always be in the zone. I know the 302 in the Z/28 would go to 7 k plus and the Ford wasn't far behind. Light to light they could hold there own with larger cubed engines. As was stated it was really designed for Trans Am racing. Against a 340 ?? ..who knows, I wouldn't want to bet against either. Nothing wrong with saying another manufacturer had a good engine even on a mopar site. Hell in 50 years I've owned them all, as most of us have.
