I run a oval air cleaner on my car like the ones used on the single 4bbl car's, these have to use a wing nut or bolt to hold the base and then the filter and 2 wing nuts on the lid. My question is what did Chrysler use on these from the factory, all the cars I've had were already several years old and some had wing nuts and some bolts, it seems like a dangerous set up to me as if the wing nut came loose it would get sucked down the carberator. I welded the wing nut on mine so this couldn't happen, and now just screw the stud and all in as it makes it too large to come loose and get sucked down. Do any of y'all know what was originally used?

as far as I know, they were usually held by wingnuts. If you're worried about dropping one down the carb, maybe you could rig up a lanyard to it.

I don’t know if this helps or not, but this is the original setup of a 6 barrel air cleaner. 2 wing nuts and washers to hold the lid, nothing to hold the base to the carbs tho!

The six pack set up was safe because the wing nut's were actually on the lid, the single four bbl just seems unsafe unless there was something special they used on the carb.

Sorry Mitch, that’s the best I could do. Maybe my brother can chime in, I think he runs the 4 barrel base on his car, maybe he’s got something!
