I recently bought a RetroSound Redondo and 4x10 stereo speaker replacement for my 1968 Barracuda. I'm just getting started, removed the 90s Pioneer that was hanging under the vent assembly, then removed the vent assembly and a bracket at the rear of the original radio. I can't see anything else that's holding the radio on from underneath - is it necessary to remove the dash bezel to get the radio out? Also is the only way to replace the 4x10 speaker (at the cowl) from underneath? Looks like it's going to be tight to get at.

Any info and/or photos greatly appreciated.

2 mounting tabs on the radio that hold radio to the dash. Theres clipped in studs on the dash frame. Along with the rear radio support, you now just have to remove the 2 "sems nuts". Nuts w captured washers from the back side of the radio at those mounting tab holes. Pic is a 68-70 rallye dash radio. Note the mounting tabs

Yes the inst bezel has to be pulled away/removed from dash. Remove glove box and door to get to speaker. Console and seats would make it easier too.

The only way to replace the speaker is from underneath and ,yes , it's tight . Pack a lunch before you start and expect to get cramps . lol

Disagree on removing the dash bezel for the radio as the mounting hardware is from the back side of the radio. Agree with removing glovebox door and liner to access speaker.

67 has to have inst bezel removed as it has 2 "posts" for knobs. 68 has thumbwheel, so you should be good without removing bezel.
PS, the single speaker up front...there is a member on here that sells an adapter/bracket, so you can install 2 small round speakers instead of the single 4x10.
Good luck

Just a warning, I just returned a Redondo because I couldn't get it to fit a '68 Rallye dash bezel or dash frame. The thumb wheels wouldn't go through the bezel. And as much adjustment as it had, it wasn't enough. Just FYI

Just wanted to say a big "thank you" for the posts and information so far. My son and I successfully got the old stereo out and new speaker installed this afternoon. Going to try and reference the dimensions of the stereo when assembling the RetroSound unit, hopefully will be able to throw that in in the next few weeks.

The tip on removing the glove box and door was a huge help for accessing the speaker, I never would have thought of that. Also, as an FYI to anyone else installing one of these, I did not need to remove the dash bezel to get the radio out. I referenced the image posted above by @moparmat2000 and found the nuts semi-blindly. The passenger side one was visible from underneath, the driver's side nut was totally blind.

I'm looking to wire up the new radio and am having some trouble, was hoping someone could lend some advice. When I removed the Pioneer that the previous owner had installed under the air vents, a bunch of the wires kind of fell out so I did not know here they were originally attached. I have the yellow "constant" wire located but am looking for the red "switched" wire and can't seem to find anything that's not already hooked up to something else. There are a couple of connectors that look like they should have something attached to them (circled in red in the photo), but that's my only guess.

Any thoughts on where the switched power wire should hook up?

Thanks!

Did your new radio fit the dash bezel properly? Could you post a picture? Thanks.

I actually got it to fit pretty well, but never did the final installation. I did need to shave down the thumbwheel openings in the bezel a hair on each side to get it to come through - I got them to protrude about the same amount as the stock radio.

I've been reading not-so-good things about the Redondo bluetooth connection and, since we just have 1 stereo speaker in the dash, it seems like a little overkill. So we're trying a Woody's Custom Shop little 2-channel unit to hide under the dash and will have the original radio back in, but not hooked up.

Here's where I ended up.
Gutted original radio, bent some new side pieces, I had to tack weld the wonder bars and installed an outofsight Bluetooth receiver.

Does anyone know what these electrical connectors are called and/or where to buy them? Found an open female connector for the yellow constant wire, but I need a male to hook up to it.

I wouldn't trade my D.I.N. friendly rally panel for anything else but... it isn't easy or cheap either.

You did a great job there but I've just never been a fan of the look in old cars. I like everything in the interior looking as classic as possible.

I have an Alpine around here that I can install under the seat. I'm sure there's some sort of BT adapter I can get for it. The radio in the dash will just be for looks.
