Do yourself a big favor, while you have the inspection cover off, adjust the air gap between the throw out bearing and the clutch fingers. Cycle the pedal a few times and recheck. The gap can be a 1/8"-1/4" and the free play on the pedal should be fine. I installed my first clutch, got in a hurry, and adjusted the free play on the pedal. The throw out bearing was riding on the pressure plate fingers and the bearing overheated and seized. It ground up the fingers and ruined the clutch. I thought may be it was a cheap clutch and the fingers weren't adjusted properly. (nope, my fault it failed) The replacement was a Brewer kit and I had the local Clutchmasters check it out. It was perfect right out of the box. It has been in for probably 10 years with no issues.
