'68 HP383 barracuda 4 sp. Oil pressure runs about 75 cold idle- when driving well warmed up it's about 55 at 45mph, maybe 60-65 at 55 mph, dropping to 25-30 at hot idle. 10W40. Just a mild cam and high volume oil pump, pretty much stock everything - do those pressures seems about right? Seems like I had a little higher oil pressure last year but could be wrong. Under a thousand on the oil but it's been in 2 summers so getting ready to change.

Engine clearances increase when hot and pressures drop. Your numbers are not alarming. On an old worn out engine, all that matters is that you have some pressure at idle, even 10lbs.

well thanks - makes me feel better anyway. I should have mentioned it's running decent - no missing, good power. . A little noisy though, tapping that seems more from passenger side valve cover. With anti pump up lifters been told rockers may need adj.

I have a std volume and std pressure Melings pump in my big block, i have max 55 psi and about 25 -30 at idle. I run 20/50 in my motor.

Those numbers are nothing to be alarmed about. My 69 360 idles hot around 25 PSI. Running 10-30 syn blend.

Your oil pressure readings look fine.
A good rule of thumb is 10 psi of oil pressure for every 1000 rpm.
Near stock street application.

great thanks - good to have some comparisons. I'm going with some 20-50 Lucas next change.
