Lost my best friend yesterday

Had to take our 13yo golden retriever in yesterday and and let him go to heaven. Found out 2 weeks ago his chest and abdomen we're full of masses. He acted normal, was always happy, and ate like a horse. The vet said he was showing no signs of stress or suffering but it was only a matter of time. Well just 2 weeks later he all of a sudden wouldn't eat ANYTHING and seemed to be breating heavy and just didn't seem happy. As much aswe wanted him to stick around, we weren't about to let him suffer. We sat up with him from 3 am until 730 when the vet opened. Feeding him ice cubes and talking to him. He seemed content and was still wagging his tail for us. This dog has been through several major surgeries, was on meds for siezure control, and always bounced right back, happier then ever. We could just tell he was ready to let go. Thanks to the vet and her staff for being so compassionate. After a sedative and they injected the medication, he went very peacefully in a matter of seconds. We sat with him for awhile gave him final kisses and goodbyes. Hardest thing I've ever done I think!!!! We're gonna miss you Jake!!!IMG_20190606_090948301.jpg IMG_20190606_090948301.jpg
