I have a stock 74 318, picked up Edelbrock Performer intake, and have the chance to get an Edelbrock 1404 manual choke for $40- needs rebuild, and I was thinking of an electric choke conversion. It seems the 1406 is preferred , is this carb worth rebuilding or just go for the 1406?
I like the 1404 for that engine. If you run the numbers, even with 85% Volumetric Efficiency, it only comes out to 430 CFM at 5500 RPM. A 600 will work. I've seen it done. But the 500 will be MUCH livelier.
