Brand new probably. ....just need better milage than my full size truck....V8 or maybe even a V6..... I'm driving 25 miles each way to work now. ....the gas in the truck is killing me...plus I just want a Challenger!

I figure they're not A-Bodies.....what is the body designation?
What do you guys think about the new Challengers?

Jeff

I've been looking at them also, I drive a f 350 dually for my run around vehicle I figure I could dam near pay for one with the gas savings. Although Im not going new there's a slew of the around where I live a couple year old in the mid $20's with very low miles. I've looked at a few and Im just waiting for one that jumps out and says buy me.

At a minimum I would get the Scat Pack 392. If I were to get one, that would be the starting place and I could easily be talked into an auto Hellcat in white.

The new Challengers are built on the LY body. It is a variant of the LX platform that the modern Chargers and Chrysler 300 were built on.

They are good cars. I have a 2006 Charger SRT and a 2012 Chrysler 300 C. I like both of them very much.

LY body....thanks!

I would consider a SRT but not a hellcat for me I want to drive the thing and not be worried about miles and scratches, just for my needs anyway, the last SRT wouldn't out run my 64 anyway.

Most won't say this, but you can't make a bad choice. Pick what suits you best!
  • V6's will run 14.60's, and get 30 mpg on highway. Cheaper to insure, and buy brand new for 25k if you shop. In fact, I was looking at a plum crazy purple w/ black rims, black back fin, well equipped, 2019 brand new for 24,949.
  • R/T will get you that V8 throaty sound, burn the tires off from a dead stop at will, and run a easy mid 13. Gas mileage is right behind that V6. My son had one of these.
  • Scat Pak, if you want power, they have it. Hook 'em up, and you may dip into the high 11's. My son has one now, and he is getting around 25 mpg, and power is incredible. But new, you'll pay $$$ on the plus side of 40k. 3 years old and you can get them just under 30k if you shop hard.
Be sure and show us your new investment!!

Really leaning towards the RT!

If it's anything like the 300s, they are built like tanks.

I have 2 of them, both 3.6 pentastar 305 HP engines, great gas milage I've got 31 mpg hwy before but usually around 26 mpg around the country roads only problems I've had are with the smart glass switches and I had to replace the radiator on one it started leaking between the aluminium core and plastic tank. Black one is 2011. Red one is 2012.

8 speed automatic?

Both mine have the manual shift option. The shift just as well on their own though, they run quicker with the traction control on also.
LOL.... Not your Paddle Shift automatic.. :D Manual shift to me has a clutch pedal. You cannot get a Manual shift (stick shift) in a V6

Jeff here are my 2. Own them both still, the black is a 2010 RT/C purchased in Sept. 2009 and has been a great car. Only has 63,000 miles on it with minimal issues, the mentioned smart glass problem and a couple of safety recalls. The yellow is a 74 purchased from the original owner in 1997 and has been a very good car also(just a lot of work LOL). So I would say purchase a new one and be happy... just keep the Cuda for old time sake. By the way the 2010 is my wife's and the yellow is mine... 2nd picture is of the two cars sharing the garage and my yellow car on its 2nd garage restoration by me since I've owned it (22 years in September)

I absolutely love mine.....bought it new....2018 T/A 392 8-speed. We recently took it on a 12 day 5,300 mile road trip down Route 66 then up the costal hwy 1 in CA and it was such a nice car to drive, not once were we ever tired of driving it or bored with it. I never even sat in a newer style Challenger till I looked at this one, always wanted one and they are sexy as ever....this is an awesome car!!!

Sorry for all the pics lol

Funny thing is when I wanted to buy a new Challenger this great state we live in was putting anywhere from $5000.00 to $10,000 mark up on them (back in 2009). So since I'm originally from Michigan I bought the car back there, pretty much all through FEDEX for documentation and e-mail. Flew back to Michigan when the car was delivered to the dealer (made a mini vacation out of it as my mom and a couple of brothers still live there) was at the dealership less than an hour and they filled it up with gas for me. Drove the car back to CA., best damn road trip of my life. Just me and the car, no wife or kids went with me. It was great stopped when I wanted to and sang as loud as I wanted as it was just me.lol

Just don’t forget your roots! Was in Mobile last year and those challenger guys did not want me to park next to them! Sad that was!
