So a good friend of mine and I, got into a friendly discussion about what one is lighter. Here's the setup.

Mild 273 4 bbl cast intake, stock cast heads and exhaust manifolds, push button 904.

VS

408 360 LA based aluminum eddy heads, performer rpm air gap, dougs d-450's and Tko 600 5 speed tranny.

What do you guys say which one weighs less?

408 by a good bit.

That was my side also those 273 4bbl manifolds weigh a ton, not to mention the heads got be 40 or 50lbs heavier.

BTW his argument is the 360 block is much heavier, I maintain that they are about the same.

And intakes. And transmissions. I think the 904 is heavier. Don't some of the 273s have cast iron water pumps?

All 273's came with cast iron water pumps...

The last year for the 273 was 1969 and the aluminum water pump came out in 1970... So all 273's had the cast iron water pump from the factory...

However you could convert them to the 70 and later set up if you wish....

The 408 set up weighs less...

Here's how to argue....

I agree, about the 408 probly being liter. But all alum. heads are not that much liter, mine are only 6# apiece liter than the stock cast iron that cme from the factory, not a small block tho-----

Your friend is getting fooled thinking the larger cubic inches means more weight. He doesn't understand both engines are exactly the same size.
