Any Dog People Here ?

-
Here is Cooper, our Australian Cattle Dog at about 6 months

Cooper1117.jpg

And another shot of him a little over a year later

Cooper1218.jpg

He is a very smart dog, learning commands like Sit, Lay Down, Speak, Shake, a stern NO, Come, etc. almost intuitively. He knows his boundaries in the yard, when walking him in public and at car shows people see him and comment on his marking and how behaved he is, and when the wife and I are at work for 9 hours, the house isn't trashed or any "accidents" when we return, in the car he lays down in the back seat in a protective partition that hangs from the headrests of the front and back seats, laying on a blanket and either looking out a side window or taking a nap. All in all the wife and I could not be any happier with him as a pet.

My buddy is on his last leg. He Was going to Carlisle with us this year but not going to happen. He has thrown up everything we have tried to feed him for the last week and at 16+ years We are going to put him down tomorrow to ease his pain and we are still crying! Hardest thing we have faced in some time!

Sorry about what's to come.

That looks like a dear friend.

I cant even think about the day when I have to make that call. It's one reason why I didn't want to get another dog.

Sorry for your loss.

Here's my mut.

My girl is out of town for work and he normally sleeps at the foot of our bed. This morning I woke up to him dam near kissing me...

He's goofy as all get out and I can't decide If he's dumber than a box of rocks or smarter then me.. but he sure is a good dog and I love the **** out of him.

Chase Elliott loved to come out in the garage and sit in his stroller while I worked on the fish. He will be sorely missed!

So maybe I did move his blanket up to my ladys side of the bed. Shes not here and you best believe I'm not sleeping alone.

I know when my time comes there will be quite a few dogs waiting inside the gate greeting me.

It's hard. ours was in November and we just got his "replacement" on Mothers day. It healed some mental wounds quickly. I wish strength for you all tomorrow.

I'm Very sorry Gerald. Like Chase Elliott, my Leo likes to hang out in the garage with me.

Time is quickly approaching for him. We're hoping to wait until our grandson gets back next Saturday. He's been my buddy for over 13 years. Here's a pic from February.

Here are my 4 kids,

Hobo (brown), Daisy Mae (black), both are rescues,The black pit used to escape up the street and come down and play with the three I had, one day the lady up the street had her in the car, she stopped and asked if I wanted her (the dog) otherwise she was headed to the pound, a kill shelter, and once a pit goes in, it never comes out, even if You own it !
Hobo, was standing on the side of the road, I watched him just stand there, lost, dazed, and confused, (hence the name Hobo) horns blowing at him, just a matter of time till he got hit, coaxed him over to my yard, very skidish, eventually he followed me to the fenced back yard and has been here ever since.

This is Theda, the oldest and smallest of the four, a wire/longhair dachshund, bought him outside Walmart for 75 bucks, he's my shadow, the typical alpha male wolf trapped in a dwarf's body and dumber than a box o' rocks!

And this is Lilly, Dachshund mix, AKA: the terror of Waterford Road, and the matriarch, I consider her a rescue, paid 50 bucks at a Burger King parking lot, they kept her in the bathroom 24/7, cause of the other dogs didn't get along with her, she was a pup then. She absolutely runs the show around here, She's daddy's girl and the other three's nightmare, they won't even come close if She's eating or sleeping, by all means an Alpha female, She has seven confirmed kills and two cat's, a black snake, a duck, a possum, two squirrels, and cornered an armadillo that got away by burrowing under the chain link fence, sans tail.

I love dogs. Must be genetic as my mother loved them also.

A man that has never seen the love and affection between man and dog... there is apart of his soul never found??

Although I have 4 dogs that I kinda like, I do have rules, very strict rules, and I have laid them out to My dogs, I even have them posted so they can review them every once and a while, I honestly think they understand the rules also, there are consequences for breaking the rules, IE: starvation, beatings, solitary, salted water bowl, and THE CAGE !
Here are the rules.

Watch out for the white one, he's gonna be the outcast, it won't play well with others and it's chances of survival won't be equal to the rest, but most likely it'll survive and be tough as nails, just My theory, I was a white dog at birth ! :)
How do I have such knowledge? here's an older pic of Me when we trolled the fish markets for working female feline's.

Love these crazy pups!

I'm thinking about you and Melanie.

Thanks Gerald. Will be the hardest day of my life.

You will survive it.

It is tuff and still tearing today a lot after 16 years but! Our boy lead a good life and was pampered, thanks to my wife Melanie for doing what I could not. He was a mommas boy the most , but does not ease the pains. Funny thing his sister we lost a couple years ago was a daddy girl. They were both sired by the same mom and totally different attitudes! She went in her sleep and was a easier issue.

We know those looks! Dottie’s have a distinct expression! Love them as long as you can! Doing the rescue deal is commendable!
