Guys, I know that my newly acquired '69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 4-speed has the wrong radiator and fan shroud, maybe the fan too. The engine is I believe a '70 340, it has a six pack on it but I do not believe it is a TA/AAR engine. Radiator is a 3 row. Bottom tank has no drain and I would like to straighten things out. I am confused about lower hose exit Rt. or Lt. side. The water pump inlet is on the Rt. or passenger side so whats with the parts suppliers saying it should be on the drivers side? The current radiator works fine but I want to correct it.

Water pumps changed from the 1969 model year to the 1970 model year.

So, which one do you have & would you prefer a 1969 radiator?

Where and what type of timing mark do you have? ( not on the balancer but on the timing cover)

Hope my photos make the trip. Probably want stay with '69.

I don't know, I can't seem to get the other photo to load. Let's try again.

If it is working dont mess with it.
In 69 I believe the water pump inlet was on the drivers side. I could be wrong
You need a ton of $ and parts to swap it over.
If the car is not totally original it is no big deal to leave it be.

I believe you have 70 up front cover and waterpump. I would go with a 70 rad setup as changing to 69 requires a bunch of other changes (timing mark on balancer, add on timing tab on passenger side etc. water pump with outlet on drivers side, alternator bracketry IIRC)

I hope smarter people will chime in here but that is what I have gleaned from looking at parts, and my memory. Plus you get the advantage of an early form of cross flow radiator (in on the left, out on the right)

Yes, mine does appear to be '70 ish. So I will look at it from that angle. This car is a compilation of swap meet parts, found this out after purchase. The fan shroud, well, it only fits when installed upside down . That along with no petcock to drain is a looser.
Weight differences between aluminum and copper radiator?

Thanks to all for answering. Especially DanaDart67 for the pictures, now we are on the same page!

I have no idea. Been looking at '70 radiator replacements, they seem to have a plug there for something, or one size fits all. That seems to be my car! Phil Fish is doing my carbs. now. I've only driven this car twice, so many issues, but the list is narrowing.

I went through the same stuff on my 69. If you have something that works ok, might be best to leave it alone. If you change the radiator, you have to change the water pump, then that will cover up your timing marks. The pulleys and alternator brackets will have to change too. It can turn into a big mess for not any gain unless you want it back to bone stock.

You'll get there. post a photo of your car

The radiator cap is on the top side of the radiator, Correct:poke::rofl::rolleyes:

The original radiator numbers are as follows (if you're looking for the correct one)

2949066 22" auto or manual transmission heater only (probably 2 core)
2949068 22" auto or manual transmission A/C or N51 (HD cooling) (probably a 3 core)

Very nice, puts my dart to shame!

Is that a 70s Dodge van? my friend growing up had one I think they had the best styling of the big 3 for their time.

It was a'78 Good Times van. Still has the red shag carpet, 360 engine, 727 torqflite. I am the 2nd owner, had it since around '81 or '82. Was from close by, Muscatine, IA. Repainted it close to the stock color, it originally had a maze of stripes.

Nice '70 ! I have 15 in. stock rims that I got with the correct back set, the rears are 15x8 with 4 1/2 back set, 255/60x15 tires. Waiting on sandblast/paint and dog dish hub caps. It's nice to see another A-body ! I may be the only one in my area. I haven't been out with mine yet, just trying to straighten things out. It will never be a show car. Later
