Always liked the idea of doing that, helps to center the rear wheels in the wheel openings along with the extra room at the front edge.
Find a metal fabricator and have them make you up a couple 3/8" thick steel plates with the proper mounting holes in them. Can use cardboard as a template so they can make the parts for you.
