Nowhere, ever, have I heard of a front end being called a "doghouse". Is this term just used in some part of the country?

Noun
doghouse (plural doghouses)
1. Any small house or structure or enclosure used to house a dog.
2. A structure of small size, similar to a doghouse, but offering useful shelter for a human.
3. Mechanically, an equipment cover with an opening, with a shape resembling a doghouse.
4. (nautical) A difficult or demoralizing situation.
5. A traffic signal with five sections: two on the bottom, two in the middle, and one on top.

Speaking of doghouses.... the insulation on the doghouse of my daughters 79 Dodge C-Class motorhome caught fire on our way camping last week . Luckily we were close to home and I was able to McGiver it back together with header wrap and some sheet metal. Better than new now !
