I have an 18' by 18' bedroom with only 3 small vertical windows on one wall. Not much in the way of natural light or ventilation. The windows have no glass, but rather double screens (one attached outside, the other attached inside). Well, I removed the screens to paint the metal window frames because they were getting rusty. I immediately noticed a stronger rush of air into the room and it seems a little brighter in there too.

I am now debating on whether or not to replace the screens as they were, or leave 'em off after I paint the window frame/security bars.

How old is your air filter?
And how often do you replace your furnace filter?

I don't see why window screens wouldn't get clogged up just the same

If it's in the budget, put new screens in and see if the air flow doesn't improve over the old ones

Not sure how much he needs a furnace in Mexico... but it's all about cross ventilation. Replace those screens...I lived in a rental years ago that had really small mesh screens... not much sir moved thru them

A standard window screen reduces normal air velocity by about 50% and blocks about 50% of light transmission.

Add a low speed fan in the window and you can overcome the velocity impediment. New black window screens will let more light through than old faded or lighter color ones.

Get rid of the extra large-mesh screen since it just blocks even more air velocity and light transmission.

No heater or A/C in the building at the moment. Don't even need a water heater six months of the year.
But that wasn't the point
I make the illustration, you make the application
(Application being, that screens, over time, clog up)

If the screens are in good shape otherwise, just use a soft brush (car wash brush) & soapy water, then give em a rinse, makes a big difference, they do hold a lot of dirt.
I’d only put 1 set of screens in, not 2.
