Working up a new torque converter specification for my 67 fastback.
It is a 340/727/8 3/4 car with factory air and power steering.
Anyone have an idea what this car should weight?
Thanks in advance

I would go with 3000 - 3100 lb....

May or may not be correct, but I thought the factory rated it at 3400lbs. I always felt that was too high.

I weighed a 67 formula S 273 A/C car back in college to be at 2940 lbs.

It had the A/C ducts inside, and condenser outside, compressor and all other A/C components stripped out of the engine compartment, a 318 2 bbl instead of the 273 4 bbl, 904 trans and 7 1/4" axle... Manual steering and a floor console...

If the car is movable bring it to your local truck scale, many scrap metal places, recycle or land fills have scales.

I was shocked
I was with everyone else thinking the car weight was 3100 - 3300 pounds
I drove it up to the local truck stop and 3740 pounds with a full tank of fuel and me out of the car, nothing in the trunk.
I will verify at a different scale before I believe it.

Fuel would be around 6 to 7 lbs per gallon ( water is 8lb per gallon and fuel is less dense than water so that's how i got the estimate) that's about 126 lbs.

What engine? could add a couple hundred if big block vs small block.

340 iron head, aluminum intake, headers, power steering, Factory A/C with a 727

That scale is probably close. Does seem high without you in it...
My car is a notchback - and notches are lighter than fastbacks.
Its been on the scales several times. 3200 is the low end with some fuel in it.
Flip to the bottom of this for a summary from the magazine tests reprinted by Brookland Books.
both curb and wieght as tested are listed

Besides the A/C and power steering, wheels and tires can add weight quick.

3410
Here's my streeter;3430pounds with a half tank of gas.
with 360/A833/8.75, aluminum heads/intake/trans case/slotted wheels. GVod, TTI s and 3" full-length duals, PS,PB,heater and swaybar. 295/50-15 Coopers on 15x10s and 235/60s on 14 x7s. No A/C, no back seat. Ima thinking we'll be fairly even after the adjustments.
All my Fastbacks have been pigs Which is why this last one is a 360 with ~177psi cylinder pressure.
The pipes and mufflers alone is 72#, without headers. The fold-down rear seat was 64 pounds( I never put it back in). The GVod is advertised 23# IIRC.The swaybar was~12, the heater ~16, front bumper ~30, one 15x10 slot was ~14, IIRC the aluminum cased A833 WITH the GVod adapter was somewhere around 85#

Any extra stuff added like Sway bars, sub frame connectors, torque boxes etc?

Looks like factory weights are similar for Dusters, last time I had my '70 Duster on a scale it was 3480 with me in it and about 60 lbs. of tools in the trunk and a half-tank of gas. So minus all that it would be around 3200-3300? My car has a B-body 8 3/4", big heavy 15" Rallyes and fat tires, factory undercoating, power steering, and a big 50-lb battery which will be relocated to the trunk. Engine is a 5.9 Mag with Eddy aluminum heads and intake but I haven't had it weighed since getting the current engine installed.

I agree find another scale to double-check that does seem pretty high. Although that factory A/C setup is around 100 lbs. with the big-*** compressor, evaporator and condenser, drier, and all the lines. A 727 is a decent bit heavier than a 904 as well. What rear end is in the car?

A trick you can also do is measure the front and rear separately to get an idea of weight distribution, just drive the front wheels on first, get a weight, then drive over till just your rear wheels are on the scale and measure again.

The winner is who ever guessed 3340 pounds.
I drove the car today and went to our county certified scale at the Road and Bridge dept, which was just certified by the State of MO 2 weeks ago. Two blocks from the scale I stopped and fill it with fuel. The car weight 3440 pounds with me out of the car.
So minus the fuel 16 gallons at 6.3 pounds per gallon or roughly 100 pounds off the total weight equals 3340 pounds. Close enough for me.
The person who guessed closest to 3340 can pick up their prize at the door on their way out.
Thanks much to all who participated.
