A performance cam will ya e low vacuum and any minor leak will put the vacuum reading at the bottom of the fish tank. Timing, if poor for the combo will bury the reading.
The timing cover has the timing marks embossed on it. To make reading it easier, (scrape off the old paint) re paint the cover area and balancer and use white out to high lite the markings.
Works like a champ!
