I have a 72 Duster with an 8.75 rearend w/suregrip. What brand of ring and pinion would you guys recommend because the one I have looks like it needs to be replaced. Also, what viscosity of gear oil should I use.

This car is a nice street machine and don't really plan on taking it back to the track...bad **** happened the one time I went. Another story for another time.

Thanks,
B

Ask the shop your going to have the gears set up at?

Only 4 post in over two years as a member, tell the "bad **** happened" story....

I'm on here more than my posting history shows. I'm lucky enough to have a few friends that are a wealth of knowledge when it comes Mopar stuff so I get most of my questions answered here locally.

The one and only time took my Duster down the track resulted in a tailhousing blown into three pieces, a driveshaft shot out the back of the car and several hundred dollars is new parts/repairs.

Also the reason I said something about your local shop that's going to set it up was because as I bought plenty of parts from dr. Dif and he's been a great help in the years past the last time I went to change my gears his website showed 185 plus an extra hundred if I wanted the Spicer gears. I believe? So that would have been probably a little over $300 with shipping. The shop that I had do my setup said they could get me gears (Spicer gears) 150 + 175 setup. So for the same approximate $325 I got the gears and set up.
Yeah there's many people on here who don't even join, but are on here reading stuff all the time for years on end.
I don't think it was the dragstrips fault that that was the day that you found the weak Link in your car. Good thing you found it there in a controlled environment instead of leaving you on the street somewhere....

Motive Gear is my choice, my friend broke 2 sets of Richmond gears in a 9" ford,

get US Gear ring and pinion gears -- made in the USA -- gears come with the correct gear contact pattern rolled onto the teeth -- can't say enough about the quality of these gears. --- available from Summit - Jegs -- Mancini Racing etc.

Everybody says a 9" is the strongest ? just saying, I seen 4 teeth knocked off the ring gear, and it was a Currie rear.
no they're not. and from what i've read they use a bit more HP to drive than an DANA

They do take more power to drive them but the xtra bearing on rear of the pinion helps them take a lot of power. My friend ran one in his alcohol funny car back in the 80's and had a 3 bearing pinion support out front because the power they take try's to screw the pinion out the front of the case, that and billet caps make a very strong unit. I'm not a ford fan of any kind but it is what it is. My friend had a 40 Merc with a 540 ford with a 671 on the street that's what broke the 9" Richmond gear, only about 1000 HP. It should have taken it with no problem.

YOU HAD IT EASY, I HAD A DRIVESHAFT EXPLODE IN THE OLD HEMI CAR AT THE FINISH LINE, DESTROYED THE TRANS, BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BELVEDERE, (glad there wasn't any fuel lines in there) , CUT THE RIGHT REAR SLICK, THE BIGGEST PIECE WE COULD FIND WAS ABOUT 10" LONG.
About rolled the car before (I think) GOD stopped it , but that's another story.
Excuse the caps-----except this one ^^^
