Yikes! I've bent a few but never broke 'em off.
You just never know what you can run into. My fish finder didn't see whatever put this gouge into my skeg in 6-7 feet of water nearing a bridge (Prairie Lake, WI). Made a loud bang but didn't kill the engine. Guessing possibly some reinforcement wire from concrete sticking up.
