Paratroopers

We did a mass jump at Ft Bragg around 95/96 and there where of 50 injuries, no one died but a lot of broken bones and twisted ankles and 1 real bad tail bone injury. All for a dog and pony show.

Our boy is a Jump master with 101, I still think he is crazy. We only "chased" our luggage for the extra bump in pay. And in my limited experience you have a large group plus equip jumping at same time there is always some twisted ankles etc. Keep in mind we are Marines so we would be eating crayons and got easily distracted. The ground comes at you pretty fast sometimes!

Luckily I only jump with about 100 of my closest friends at a time, always in the dark, and always with plenty of cushy C/E to pad my landing..

C-130 rollin' down the strip
2nd platoons gonna make a little trip.
stand up-buckle up-shuffle to the door
jump right out and shout "Marine Corps!"
if that chute dont open wide,
I got another one by my side..
if that chute dont open round,
Ill be the first one on the ground!

Man those guys on that 17 have a lot of room, they actually look comfortable.
I jumped a lot in the 80's in the 82nd and Ranger RGT. Some pretty wild stuff went on.
There were a lot of variables to consider on those big mass tactical jumps when they put a BN or a whole Regt out.
How long was the DZ, what type of aircraft, how windy was it. Of course how long was the movement after the jump. Always more twisted ankles when you had to move 20km....
Did have the rare total malfunction, entanglement or guys got drug to death on the ground.
I was surprised more people didn't get killed with all the moving parts.
Definitely a young mans game.

@Matt Miller a ragnar huh??.. What BN?

You know an 18hr sequence with full AF seizure is the epitome of controlled chaos. Never in my life have I questioned myself more than when I was absolutely certain where I was going, but I had dozens of other assholes around me, going every which way, certain where they are going too.
It's hard to truly describe a scatter plan.. you just have to live it!

I've got 29 jumps. Most of them looked just like that one.
Yeah, you're gonna get a few twisted/broken ankles and legs.
The others that were real fun involved a howitzer and humvee going out the back too. Nothing like humping artillery rounds from a missed drop zone.
Better still, not being able to find the other 30 fuses for your rounds because they tipped and spilled across the zone. "Meh, just shoot em, no ones going to look."

I was in the Navy, I did jump off a few "female friends" in Olongapo once in a while to go get another bottle of White Castle, or San Magoo, even did a few night jumps at Marilyn's in Subic City during blackouts, that count?
