I dont recall people digging holes before dumping their oil on the ground. They just dumped it in the woods.
An old trick was to spread it out on your gravel driveway, it will harden it like asphalt over time.
That first ad has to be a joke.
They still use oil on the rural highways in northwest Missouri. Don’t know if it’s motor oil (probably not) but we see “fresh oil/loose gravel” signs every time we visit the wife’s family out there.
