I was going to replace my cam bearings since I will be replacing my cam and the engine is out. summit has "direct replacement" bearings and "high performance" bearings. I am going mostly for street performance with a little strip use once or twice a year. It is a 340, cam 292 .508, 10.7 compression, headers, stock x heads. Also is one brand better than another? I have clevite 77 P series crank bearings. Thanks for any insight or advise.

What's wrong with the bearings that are in there? There is no reason to change cam bearings unless they are having issues. If they ain't bad, leave them alone.

Long story short. Engine has sat for 13 years, and I ran it for a little while with no oil pressure because I was young and stupid and thought the oil gauge was broke. I just found out that I had a broken pushrod and the oil was gushing out at that lifter since nothing was holding it down, so I was concerned the cam and bearings beyond that lifter were not getting oil for a while.

At the moment you have easy access, do it! Always use the highest quality available. Do it once, do it right.

dura bond wherever you can get them cheapest
federal l mogul etc mostly all the same unless coated or trick ****
inspect
if it ain't broke don't fix it
the cure can be worse than the disease if you do not have all the proper tooling, and even then...

Durabond high performance version in red box are the best that I can think of. Stock type cam bearings are too soft. They start to lose their babbitt coating. All the stock type come out looking pitted because soft babbitt falls off. Durabond don't do so.

Ok, so I buy a high quality cam bearing set, buy the install tool and be careful don’t touch/damage/ even look at the bearing surface!!!!! Install them perfectly straight, in perfect condition. To tight! Groove an old cam core and ream!!!!!! Welcome to mopar cam bearings! On the good side works perfect!
