340 X heads advice

That’s about what it would cost here as well.

It’s really easy to end up with a set of reconditioned castings that have new “everything” that cost $1k........before any porting is done.

I love it when those jobs come thru the door, but it’s pretty much only for an application where oe heads have to used, or a resto type job.
Not to mention that it's very unlikely someone hasn't worked on them before, since they're all getting into that 50 year old range.

Bang for the buck, hard to beat a set of Speedmasters for about a grand.

In the previous shape... God...lol
It must have been choking to death.
I've never ever been able to wrap my brain around any cylinder head guy doing a valve job would not remove a ledge like that.

The seats that were installed for the ex were too big really.
And if you look close you can see the edge that was left around the perimeter of the seat has been hammered/folded down over it.

Both the OD and ID were incorrect.

These were T/A heads, and the ex seats weren’t worn out, or leaking coolant....... so I decided to leave well enough alone and just blend the bowl up to the insert to get rid of the ledge where the insert meets the port.

The intakes flowed mid-230’s, but even after blending the ex were still only in the upper-150’s(about 5-7cfm lower than if the correct insert had been used......... so, not the end of the world).

Street duty pump gas 416/6bbl..... about 450hp with a pretty small solid lifter cam.

Very nice work! For future reference about how much to install guide liners and 3 or more angle valve job? Currently running redone X-heads that are doing fine. But have a lead on bare X-heads for a fair price.
