Hey Crew - I am Looking for a great MOPAR mechanic on the east side of Los Angeles (Silver Lake / Echo Park preferred). Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you!

Talk to Ron at Quality Automotive in West LA.

Ron is good. Will spend time with electrical stuff.

If you are going that far, Morgan Auto Service on Pico near Bundy is real good too. He's gets Mopars in there a pretty consistent basis. There's was a 68 Barracuda 340-S convertible clone in there yesterday. It has a Imperial rear disk brake setup in it. They were sorting out the braking issues it had and other things. They have one of the best alignment guys in L.A. working in there right now.

Cars Muffler and Automotive in Lawndale is great too. One of the mechanics is restoring his own beautiful 68 Charger and 56 New Yorker. I saw an Iso Grifo just came in two days ago for a tune up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iso_Grifo

Another again is Playa West Automotive in Westchester/Playa Del Rey. The owner Andy has a GTX and other musclecars. A a couple of the mechanics have musclecars. There's probably 8 to 10 1955-1976 cars in his lot right now!

If you want a 100% dedicated Mopar shop to work on it, take it to Restorations by Julius in Chatsworth. www.rbyj.com

I figure I'd try to revive this old thread before posting a new one. Any suggestions in the South Bay? The power steering gear leak, brake system run-thru, and tune up are the priority. Along with a handful of other minor things that I can handle myself. I want to learn so it would be ideal to find a shop that can bend the rules. Open to an independent mechanic but the work would need to be at your shop / home. Thanks in advance! Jimmy

I don't think you're going to find a shop that going to take twice the time to teach you how to fix your car.

But in the South Bay auto repair shops for older cars and more personal than others I would suggest:

Gasser's Garage in Lomita

Lions Automotive in Torrance

Cars Muffler in Lawndale

Most definitely. Maybe an independent guy would for the right price. Thank you for the suggestions.

You got ,evening time? Learn wrenching,on a late time community college class... Fix it ,yourself...

Dick Wagner Dyno Tune in Lawndale on Redondo Beach Blvd is the best Mopar/muscle car wrench in the the South Bay/LA area. Reed and his son Scott have been in business since 1976.

I bought my 65 'S' at a muffler shop in Southgate off Firestone Blvd. Brakes are pretty simple, one of the more simple systems to work on. Get yourself a flare wrench and a bleeder kit and go to town. Cylinders are inexpensive to replace and shoes are just as cheap on Rockauto.

Can’t think of his name but what about the red headed dude with the ponytail that’s a CPW member? He does piecework.

That’s Rory. He’s in Simi Valley. About hour to 45 min north of LA depending on where you are coming from.

Yeah, Rory. Looks like he does a lot of shade tree repairs for your club members

I wouldn’t call me a “shade tree” mechanic, I have a fully capable shop. Just don’t do body work or paint... done with that when I left CT in 2007...lol

I stand corrected. I thought you were freelancing. Whatcha been up to?
