My Third Times A Charm 69 Dart Swinger

-
Doug you and I are two lucky guys. I always thought the Swinger emblem looked good on the 69 quarters. I did mine because the stripe was removed. Good luck on your car and thanks for the compliments.

Well its been a while with life getting in the way but I have been quietly working on the car when I can. Here's a compilation of pics since my last update 2 years ago. I am now at 10 years on this car. I have wanted to quit many times but now with panels on it and about 85% done I'm more determined to finish it this year. Some of these may be duplicates.

Just went through your whole thread. What a cool car and great attention to detail, but then again, I'm partial to orange 69 darts.

Your car is awesome, great story! Glad you have her back. I lost my very first Duster when I was 18, never knew what happened to the car, seems my step dad sold it. 41 years later I bought another Duster just like the one I had. Anyways, love your build!!!

You Go Randy !!! It will be worth all the work when your done. That first rip through the gears will make you 40 years younger!!!

Thanks D that 40 years is spot on. I plan on driving this car and one of bucket list items is the Garlits show in Ocala, hopefully 2017.

Hopefully I will have my 69 GTS ready and we can meet up

Just went thru you thread great to see you managed to find you car and get it back, I've had mine since the late 70's and was lucky enough to hang on to it, its the only car that I'm so attached too I'd hate to lose it. Great looking build and those flames got some really PoP!

Car is almost done. Bolt down fenders, bumper and grill, side markers, few interior trim parts and some windshield trim. Oh I also need to put my steering wheel on. Here's a pic of my Sox and Martin headlights I made.

A few final details such as trim, rear side marker reflectors, drivers mirror & final cut and buff. I have driven it about 300 miles, runs and stops great. Changed out rear wheels for a custom set from Stockton so I can run 255/60/15 drag radials. All parts on this car are new or rebuilt.

Considering selling or trading for modern Challenger. At 65 I want a more creature comforts, especially for my wife. This car has AC but with her back and neck problems this car is to stiff for her. I have owned it for 45 years. at the beginning of the post are pics that you can click on and see it in 1975.

beautiful car, but i totally understand the needing something that fits better. do you have any pics of how you ran the A/C - heater lines? guessing through the wheel well

I used a Vintage Air 69 Chevelle Air box ( not digital) that allowed me to run the lines under the top of the fenders. AC on drivers side and heater on passenger side. I did have to modify the blower switch set up and a few other things. The digital air box would be better if the outlets are the same, which they should be.

Updates on the car. Pretty much finished except the clear coat doesnt buff well. After 8 years it is hard as glass so I am blocking it and going to clear it again. Heres some pics before and Ill post after when its done. Ready to spray now just waiting for some of this heat in Houston to subside. Thanks all

New Challengers are comfy and powerful, but can you fix them when the warrante is over?
I regret getting rid of mine, still may buy another one, but just have not found the right one yet.

Great build!
My '69 Dart is a 12-year build. It's finally coming home from paint (5th shop - long story) in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to get started on assembly.

Sorry to hear about a 5th shop. So many bad people out there calling themselves professionals. My build was delayed because I have a sick wife, cancer, liver transplant etc so it was hard to spend a lot of time on the car. Then a house build and move. Lets hope its all done, just a few small pieces and Im cruising, only no where to go, my car club has shut down all activity. I guess I'll just cruise the freeways. LOL
