Which ignition system to use?

-
That's pretty much exactly what our kits are, except we use the FBO limit plate, the Mr. Gasket 925B recurve spring kit and the OEM HEI coil and 8 pin module with weatherpack connected wiring instead of exposed blade connections.
Our kits are also capable of controlling EFI and timing for boost or NOS.
That's right! I forgot about your kits as well. I need to try it on my next conversion.

Have a bunch of rebuilt MP electronic distribs for sale. Can curve it also to your needs.

The quality of todays products especially electronics stuff from overseas is a TOTAL
crapshoot. To the people with high end ignitions and are happy with them great. I would not trust any of that **** if I was really driving my car any distance not just down to the cruise night. Stick with basic easy to find replacement MP, NOS if possible.

Thats all I put in nos/nors if I can get it, new stuff has way to high a fail rate.

You got THAT right. I'd hawk EBay for older Standard Ignition Products if putting together a factory Chrysler ignition. No way would I get store bought stuff. I'd by two of everything.

Wow this is an oldddddddddddddddddd thread as for ignition systems M.S.D. has NEVER failed me..stock Mopar crap has left me on the side of the road more then a few times especially when the weather is damp or raining..I run nothing but M.S.D. now!!!..and a "hardened shaft" too!!

MSD works good if you need that, but honestly, most builds don't. MSD has had their problems, too. The rust and corrosion thing a couple years back.......I don't know if they've solved that yet or not. Not to mention, none of it is even made in USA anymore. So really it's a gamble either way you go.

True mine was built here..:usflag::usflag::usflag:

ECHO what yr and other posters have said
NO mater how many good testimonials MSD is a total crap shoot
low end imported stuff is a failure waiting to happen
High end stuff still fails
work with some members on this board who have posted if you do not want to roll your own, they can set you up so you will be close OTB and show you how to be a pro tuner- do carb, repeat
availability of replacement parts is key
I run HEI conversion on a couple of cars and MP on others
Best CD I ever had was a Grant designed by George Ilinski rock solid little rectangular box with fins George was a genius RIP

The crap shoot was made even worse years ago when there was a flood of counterfeit MSD units on the market; very, very hard to tell the difference from originals until they failed and you sent it back to MSD for warranty/repairs and then they tell you it's not their's, it's a fake.

If you want an MSD but are concerned about reliability go with a Daytona Systems CD-1

I suppose I got lucky, I bought a new Mallory HyFire-6A ignition box for my Duster about 10 years ago before Mallory got bought out by MSD/Holley group. Still kicking strong, that box is running its 3rd engine now, never had an issue. I went on some pretty long road trips btw, several hundred miles each time and never once had to think about the ignition system giving problems.

Apparently you can still buy Mallory boxes but they look different and are only offered in one or two models, I'm willing to bet they're just rebranded MSD units.

I buy up all that used stuff as soon as I see it.

Since we are on the subject of ignitions.
I have been chasing what I perceived to be a carb related burble under 2000 rpms. Its just not crisp ! Now I am thinking it could be ignition related.
Mopar dizzy and electronic ignition. Used both chrome and orange box.
This is on my Fastback not my Swinger with the CD-1.

I ran dual points and super coil for many years. old school.
upgraded to electronic with chrome and gold box. mounted side by side.
