Squeaks

I noticed the rear springs are squeaking. The book says worn zinc friction plates between the leaves are a cause. I've checked with Classic Ind., Year One, and several others without results. Are these things available? If not what has anyone on the forum done to replace?
 
Spray some PB blaster( perferably) , or if you must - wd40 ( junk in my opinion) on the rubber bushings. LET IT SOAK IN. The " miracle" won't happen in just 2 minutes.
Ruglide ( tire mounting solution from NAPA works well also). You just may not have to buy a whole gallon for your application.

Bottom line..... The rubber bushings are DRY.

Been doing this since the Earl 70's when l worked in a 2 stall SERVICE Station.
Where we actually SERVICED customers cars instead of trying to rip them off.
(As in today's "Corporate" world)

It only squeaks when my wife is riding with me. That's why I thought about the springs.

Second thought...... Leave her home.
But that is a "sexist" ,or whatever correct terminology, answer .

But my reply still holds merit.
When extra weight is put in / on a vehicle it causes said vehicle to "twist" creating loads on suspension mounting points that they do not " normally see".
Most. ( damn near all from the late 50's forward) Mopars are of unibody construction. Meaning no. SEPERATE frame.
It dosen't take much "flex" in the entire vehicle to create ..squeeks, leaks, etc.....
You have not stated if your car has 10,000 miles or 100,000 miles on it.
Is it a Southwest USA car ..or one from the Salty Northeast?
Those two do not even BARELY. scratch the surface of what your problem COULD potentially be.
 
Armour all makes rubber stop squeaking too.
I guess its gone, so any vinyl treatment will work.
 
There are leaf spring rebuild kits available and some have the metal shims. Some models also have plastic shims in addition. The metal shims are in the middle of the pack and the center locating bolt goes through it. The plastic sums are the end of each leaf where they touch.

The car was originally purchased in Seattle and always garaged except for a couple years in an impound lot with partial coverage. It's a numbers car and had 99852 original miles on odometer at the time I bought it. I had a good laugh out of Dana's remark.
 
Rebuild kits are available all over. R/T specialties and more sell them. They include the zinc plates and plastic rubs as well new clamps. Count the leaves for the correct kit.
 
I had some pneumatic hi-jackers in the back of mine, when the girls would load up the back, the 10" tires would rub on the fender lip. Time for some more PSI!

The zinc pieces are called 'interliners'..."..Frank Badalson of Roger Gibson restoration is apparently the only one reproducing and selling real zinc interliners like the originals..."

Rebuild Kit Leaf Spring Does Both Sides Incl - #H-7503-40AK - National Parts Depot
NPD doesn't list a kit for '64/'65's. Will later model kits work on the earlier cars?
