Has anyone found a way to convert the 42RE/46RE electronics and get around using the computer ? or found a way to use the computer to just work the transmission only ? The electronic transmissions are easier to find.
 
I have no idea, but you are exactly right on one thing, the RE's are much easier to find. I've been looking for a 42RH and not having much luck around here.
 
"I think" you can use a manual valve body but it has to be special for the E series

I was able to find a package deal on a pair of 42RH’s around here - well, it took a 3 hour road trip one way. I had one of them rebuilt by Dynamic. They also reworked and upped the stall speed on the converter to use behind a stockish 340
 
I've read that guys have used the TFOD-3 to use a 42RE/46RE without the computer, but then of course you have to manually shift all the time.
