Picked this up from a not so local salvage yard. 4 hour round trip drive to get it.
From an '89 Dakota with 79k miles on it.

I sazalled some of the extraneous tabs & **** off the one I got, then dressed the cuts a bit to cut down the evidence of the redneckedness of taking a sazall to a transmission

I picked 2 from the same seller over at .org, got 1 rebuilt by Dynamic Converters who also rebuilt the torque converter to go behind a stockish 340. Will be using this 340/A500 combo in my 47 Dodge.

So, driving around with this thing in the back of my truck for a week.
Trying to figure out how a 59 year old with a bad back is going to unload a 175 lb transmission alone.
Was going to back into the garage and use a block and tackle. But my garage is off the ally beside my house, have to make a sharp 90 turn into the garage, but the ally is too narrow, and my truck too long, so no way I could back it in there.

So parked the truck with the back wheels in the low spot by the gutter in front of my driveway, and with the front end up on ramps, this got tailgate pretty low, then just slid it off onto my dolly, and rolled it to the garage.

Good job! Working by myself a lot, I bought a used engine lift, I use that thing for everything. I’ve used it to help me put the hood on and off, lift axles and transmissions out of my truck, even pull fence posts out of the ground. Here’s when I brought my new compressor home, the boom wasn’t long enough so I added some uni-strut I had kicking around

pulled the converter off, found this sticker on it. I'm guessing this means "high stall"?
some other numbers stamped into the metal but no clue as to what they mean.

I did something similar to get a short block loaded in the back of my pickup. Pulled the front end up on ramps, and let the air out of the rear tires. Slid the block over the tailgate, then pumped the tires back up and it lifted the motor stand off the ground so i could remove it from the block. More than one way to skin a cat.

Or keep an eye on the local selling places (CL & FB) for a used engine lift

I have an A500 Crate Transmission for sale for $750.00. I was going to put that transmission, connected to a Mopar Magnum 360 in my 1955 plymouth wagon until I opted for a 5.7 Chrysler HEMI with 545RFE tranny. Meanwhile the A500 has been sitting in my garage. As you probably know and rebuilt A500 goes for $1200-$1800.00. Let me know if you or other you know might be interested.
