I have a 1975 Dodge Dart Sport 360 and I cannot get more than 20-25 litres of fuel into the gas tank. The charcoal canister is long gone, the vent line is connected, but someone along the way (likely when they removed the canister) got rid of everything else and just left the steel line open on on the inner fender. I suspect that the fuel tank cannot vent the air out of it, hence not allowing the tank to fill with fuel. I cannot find a replacement canister, nor anyone who re-manufactures them, is there another alternative? Thanks in advance.

The line is probably corroded shut. My canister went bad on my 73. I removed it and added a fuel filter and rubber hose routed into the frame rail. Blow the clear with compressed air.

Are you running it to empty?

Or just empty on the gauge?

I doubt it's a vent issue, as the tank is vented via the filler hole when fueling.

I ran the tank to empty and was only able to put about 20 litres in. The tank on my car has a vent tube just above the fuel sending unit. There is a short rubber hose from the vent tube which runs to a steel fuel line which exits under the hood on the passenger side inner fender.

You drive around the block and try to add more?

My 74 Duster is vented at the cap only. Fills right up just fine. How long have you had the car? Do you have history on it?

I have posted this before: My new tank had the same upper vent tube, I ran it around the tank and up threw the floor of the trunk , made a couple of tite coils and back down thru the trunk floor.
I takes fuel w/o splashing over , and fills completely up / unlike the brand new 68 fastback I had , back in the day , which only had the filler tube vent .

My vent is exactly like yours except with the vent tube turned up in the corner of the firewall and inner fender, and I don't have any problems running the fuel full blast.
I really don't think that little tubing is enough to vent that fast anyway.

You say you can't get more than a certain amount in it.
Does it just refuse to take more, or does it take more if you go real slow?
On the Wife's Ranchero we have to hold the handle up so the fuel stays in the bottom of the filler neck so it can vent back out the top of the neck over the incoming fuel.
Otherwise it just shuts the handle off.
Have you checked to make sure your tank isn't crushed?
You might check the filler neck real good also, as someone might have put something in the neck to stop anyone from siphoning the gas out.
