Finally got this engine pulled out of my Cuda that's been wasting away in the corner of my garage the last 10 years. I was told it was a 340, but was skeptical.
To my very inexperienced eye though, I would think 340-4 stamped on the block would say it's a 340. Please tell me if I'm wrong, or anything else you can add to the numbers on it.

Yup. Das a theefawty. Get the VIN off the oil pan rail on the passenger's side and post it. Never know. It might be something somebody's lookin for.

You're talking about that raised pad, just south of the motor mount, right? On the block, above the oil pan?

Appears to be 1B191803. Do the last 4 match the VIN? I decoded my fender tag, and it came back a 318-2V, and the last 4 of this do not match my VIN.

Is there somewhere else on here I should post this?

Lost and found maybe. I mean IF you'd be willing to sell to the owner with the matching car. You certainly don't have to.

I'd be willing to so a guy has a numbers matching car. That said, there may be some bartering involved. :)

Pulled a valve cover, heads are #3671587 which comes back as '73 340 and '73-74 360.

If nobody claims it, that'll be a great builder.

I bought the car from my nephew 10 years ago. He only had it a month or so. My brother said he had this engine running, sounded pretty lopey. I had enough brains to fill the cylinders with trans fluid through the years, it's not locked up.

Who knows? Might be all good the way it sits. Probably should do that stuff anyway after sitting for 10 years though, I guess.

I’d never considered that. I guess when I use my 318 in something again, I’ll have to change out the springs. The engine sat for the better part of 20+ years.

I may have to end up changing the springs out in my 331 Hemi If I EVER can get around to get it running. It's sat for about 4 plus years now, BUT I do turn it about every couple of weeks. So that will probably make the difference.

Guys just take the rocker arms off when storing engines, plus you do not get the moisture coming in from the open exhaust valves, simple concept.
I built a dumpster 318 last winter for my next project, did not even bother to put he push-rods in it, because it will be a year or so before I fire it up, unless I get a wild hair and put it on my engine start stand.
Anyways, years ago I made some exhaust cover flanges out of .063 aluminum, using a header gasket as a template, I bolt them on engines I store, to keep moisture out.
Plus I use cheap saran-warp from the store, and wrap the crap out of an engine to keep moisture and dirt out, then cover with a barbecue grill cover.
It will keep the moisture and dust out of an engine.
I have a problem with the out-building I store my engines in, it is almost too dry, wasps and mud-dobbers love to build nests in everything.
