I knew I shouldn't have bragged on how much I like my Chevy.

A while ago, I put a post up about my '84 Winnebago, running a chev 454. Last road trip 2 weeks ago, it started running hot. Popped the doghouse off today, started it... I can see the fan wobbling around, and hear the water pump knocking. Looks like a huge PITA to change out. There goes workin on the Cuda next weekend. :(

It's not that bad. WIsh you were down the street. I'd do it for you.

Dunno what it is but its always more fun working on a buddies set of wheels.
Was over at a friends last week putting an engine and trans in his 65 Pariesenne. He lives about 45 minutes away. Had a great time. Brands dont matter, friends do.

That's right!

BB Mopar H2O pump is one of the easiest to change ever made.

Loosen belt, 4 bolts.

(well, besides the 4 on the fan)

might be cramped in that Winnie but could be a LOT worse with another engine in there.

It's the same way working on my daily drivers... ugh. Hate it. Working on the 'Cuda though, that's my fun time.

It's a chev 454... urg.

Send me airfare, feed me & supply the adult beverages, & I'll change it out for you. Probably half a days work to do it properly.

I fix every day for a living.
And for fun i fix for free.
Go figure.
Would rather work on stuff i like for free than work on stuff i dislike for pay.

If I had the cash I would, lol. The problem isn't changing the pump.. I've done tons of those.. first was a Ford 460 wagon I had 35 years ago. Did my Jeep Cherokee XJ in a half hour last summer. The problem is getting to the damn thing.. lots of **** in the way, and very cramped. And it's 35 years old.. other stuff is gonna break, no matter how careful I am, lol.
Gotta remember, this is a Winnebago.. not a chev truck where everything is easy to get to. Looks like it'll all have to be done from the bottom.

So, I dug into this today. Hey! The fan shroud is split in the middle! This should be easy! Go to pull the bottom half of it off.. looking for clips, or screws. Nah, they stapled it together. I said STAPLED it together. Hour and a half of breaking staples trying to not crack the plastic, contorting my body every which way, in this damn hot muggy weather. Joy.

hate it when it's humid. my son moved to TN a few months ago, he's learning why it better to have it 110' here then 90' there. when i did the rad on my ranger i cut the shroud in 2, drilled some holes, and ziptied it back together. better than the hour and a half pulling the fan would have been. good you caught it before it ate the radiator

Out with the old, in with the new. Every damn bracket (Alt, A/C, air pump, power steering) was not only bolted to the pump.. the brackets went around it, so all those had to come off too. Damn chebbie.

Whats the hammer for? LOL
Tapping on the heater hose housings after wire wheel to get to the threads. Loose juice, propane torch, tap with hammer, again and again to get the hose adapter out. That's the original water pump, it's 35 years old. Got it out with no damage. Patience and a hammer (and torch) will get you places. :)

That makes more sense. Altho a bfh is sometimes the only solution.

Sometimes pulling the grill and radiator make things easier.

I used to have to work on Dodge Travco motor homes...no picnic either. Or A100 vans....

I thought about going that route, but I would have had to pull the A/C (which works), trans cooler, oil cooler, hoses, etc. And I'm a bit worried about breaking stuff, as it's 35 years old. There was enough room with the fan and shroud out. Got the new pump in, just have to bolt up all the brackets, hoses, etc. Been slow going, haven't had much free time lately. Just hope I don't wind up with too many leftover bolts, lol.
I always thought the Travco's were cool. Never seen one up close but pics I've seen they look neat. If I ever get one that needs work, I know who to call. :)
