as a total fresh fish I’ve been making what I consider decent progress on my project. I’m running a super six with a Carter BBD in a 65 cuda. Still need to find a v8 pedal assembly/pedal and get tuned but I’m running into a spot where I would really like to pick someone’s brain on what is happening.

The timing and dwell are off but I that’s not my only issue. I’ve found a ton of useful information but have a hard time fully understanding as this is the first time I’ve ever worked on a motor of any kind.

Not sure about the question, but I'll say "WELCOME" :)

Currently I’m trying to figure where the hose off the manifold should plug into. I have the distributor line running to the carb. The pcv valve should have a hose running into my air filter or carb?

intake runner hose goes to (a) brake booster, lower carb spud (ported) goes to crankcase PCV, you got the distributor advance line correct. Bowl vent can go to air cleaner. EGR is usually associated with a vacuum amplifier so just leave it off the EGR valve. Plug every other port on the carb you find.

I don’t think there is a brake booster. I am probably wrong but I can’t find it ‍♂️

If you have manual brakes, there will be no brake booster. IF you have power brakes, the booster goes to intake. In your last picture, that is not the PVC valve you have hooked up to the carb.

Welcome.

Hold on a minute or two and someone will show up and tell you to download one of the free service manuals that are loaded around here somewhere.

But seriously, they are a wealth of information also and most people here recollect (I don't like to assume) that one does as much research as one can before they show up asking questions. It's not always the case but you maintain good standing with your fellow collective showing a little gumption. If you are ever down a little farther south or need parts for a -6. give a yell.

Welcome to FABO.
As above get your service manual and start reading.

If you dont know what a part being described is, ask and google, look at images. No one here knows what you do or don't know, so we might say something you don't know, ask for clarification. Most will bend over backwords to help.

THIS IS NOT YOUR APPLICATION, JUST A REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLE OF A BRAKE BOOSTER.(black device between firewall and brake master cyl)

We would love to help you with your car questions. Do you have a friend nearby that could show you some basics, maybe bribe him with pizza? Then ask some questions? Right now we need some pics of the whole v/cover from the drivers side, the intake manifold w/ its fittings and both sides of the carb showing all of its fittings. We need more details because these things changed from year to year and we need to know exactly what you have to help you. Good luck.

well they never put a 2bbl on a car in 65 and there is no EGR on a 65 so well have to go with what we know works. No big bowl behind your master cylinder? Plug the manifold runner with a cap. Heck, plug the lower PCV spud on the carb, you dont need it to run. Only thing you need for a 65 is a distributor line and that is correct. plug everything else on the carb 'cept the big bowl vent.

I’m researching timing and going to plug everything but the pcv and dist. I’m running smoother just with my tinkering today.

I’m having to set idle to high currently otherwise after applying throttle it doesn’t return to the right spot?

I think the timing issue may be due to the points which I replaced last week? Heading to a yard to see if I can pull an electronic ignition setup.

Finally found a friend who actually knows more than me but he won’t be back in town for a week or so.

Pics. So where would I run the hose from the back of the manifold? Cap it?

The open hose you have laying on the valve cover coming from the intake needs to be blocked off. I would disconnect the hose from the intake and put a vacuum cap over the intake fitting. The way you have it now is a huge intake manifold vacuum leak. I would be surprised if the engine idles at all. If it does, it has to be ROUGH. Plug it off at the intake fitting since you don't have power brakes.

Also, you need a different valve cover breather. The one you have is for a much later model. What I would do is find a 65 model valve cover and use it. It will be more correct for the CAR. You can certainly do it differently, but that's how I would do it, because I like the look of the earlier valve cover better anyway.

You're doing good- it runs! Make sure there are no open ports on the carb or intake manifold. These cause a vacuum leak (engine pulls in too much air) causing too lean a mixture (not enough fuel). With the engine running you should be able to pull off the PCV valve and feel the vacuum from the carb. The PCV valve is there to pull gases, including your white gases from the inside of the engine. It appears to not be working well but we can worry about that later along with other hoses to the air cleaner. Let's get it running. Lets check the timing and then move on to possible carb issues.

If it was me, I'd remove the fitting from the intske manifold and insert a tapered pipe plug. (Hardware store item) It's probably 3/8 or 1/2 NPT thread.
If you can't remove the fitting, then cut the hose and plug it. A short screw would work. Something like a 3/8 or 1/2 dia. Whatever the ID of the hose is.
