1972 dodge dart, 225 slant 6, stock everything as far as i know.

Little long but wanted to give as much detail as i could.

Now that i have an overheating issue solved (new water pump, thermostat, and radiator) i was able to take the car further away from home to see if it would overheat. it didnt so i think i got that solved. Onto the next problem. I stopped at a friends farm to bs with him yesterday morning, he wasn't home so i tried turning around in his driveway/lane. Its on a pretty decent grade and when i tried to pull away the car stalled. I cranked on it for about 10 seconds and it fired up roughly then idled like normal, tried to pull up the driveway again and it stalled. I ended up backing down to a level spot in his side yard and got a little run for the driveway and it went. Up to this point I had been driving on pretty much flat roads or if I had to climb a hill it was at 45-50 mph. It downshifted a few times flawlessly to get me up the hill with my foot pushing good on the throttle. Never had a problem or stutter. Also never really had to start off on a hill.

When i got home i tried foot breaking a burnout without the burnout and the car would die. Same thing, crank it for about 10 seconds and it would fire up roughly and then idle fine. While in park I revved it hard and it popped once but revved good. Did it again and it hesitated a half second but revved fine.

This car sat for about 10 years and i never rebuilt the carb. I have put about 130 miles on it since i got it running in may and haven't had a problem til now.

check float height....I would just rebuild the whole carb though.....very easy....not much to them

I guess rebuilding it was inevitable.... just trying to diagnose where to begin, and if it is flooding or another issue.

Probably a weak accelerator pump shot. But Before doing the carb, check the ign timing. Don't know if you have point or electronic ign. If points, check dwell, first then timing, before doing the carb.

Points. I’m still learning how to do all this stuff so my research continues on the timing and points and dwell. Thanks!

That carb's going to be badly overdue for a rebuild. Probably has a heavy float by now, too, and new ones have grown difficult to get hold of.

Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. To reduce heat-soak flooding, do the fuel line mod and make sure you've got the correct thick carb base gasket.

Tune-up parts and technique suggestions for your Slant-6 are in this post. Eventually you'll want to do the Fuel line mod and the HEI upgrade , and consider the suggestions in this post.

So your gas is at least 10 years old if not older? How's the rest of the fuel system? You make no mention of either being fresh or in good condition. Good Luck

Lots to look at there! appreciate the info. Thanks!

Your right i did not. Original gas tank removed and replaced. Steel fuel line replaced as well as fuel filter. New rubber lines and sending unit. Basically new from back to front other than the vapor return line.
