Tranquility base the Eagle has landed

-
I was 10 and was fascinated with the space program. I knew as much as was publicly available & built many models even the Vostok.
I didn’t really understand the drama of the landing at the time. During the descent Armstrong had to level off to find a good landing area and was running out of fuel. Watching it now is fascinating.
I think the space program is the reason that I never considered athletes heroes - I was a big fan of Gurney, Foyt, Petty, Holme, Brabham, Andretti, Revson... but I couldn’t consider them a hero.

I was three years old and I remember Mom telling us to come in and watch it on TV. It was one of the few things mom made us watch on TV. Yes I still remember a lot of stuff from when I was very young oh, but I couldn't tell you what I eat yesterday or the day before. We sat there watching them bounce around the Moon the next few days and honestly didn't know what to believe.

I was 14 at the time. I remember watching channel 13. I asked my dad if we could see them on the moon if we went outside.

lol That sounds about right. ....and to think, there's a faction of people who think the whole thing was a hoax.

History that I saw and lived. Hope all my age or older remembers and cherishes.

These old times may or may not come back.
I was 19. I watched it at my girlfriend's (now wife of 48 years) house. I have a friend named Gary. We've been friends for 50 years. He also does not believe we landed on the moon. He also FIRMLY believes that the U.S. government lead by President Bush blew up the world trade centers, and that the planes crashing into it were photo shopped. He also believes that when he sees a jet leaving a white contrail in the sky the contrail is actually mind control drugs being dumped into the air by the government. He also totally believes in Natural Medicine to the point where he refuses to go to a regular AMA certified doctor. He says all they want to do is cut, burn and poison. He is currently dying from stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to his liver. He tried all kinds of quack, witch doctor stuff that his naturalists have suggested. Don't get me wrong, there are some good things you can get from natural medicine, like certain food that have certain vitamins and minerals. I won't go into all of the CRAZY assed things he has tried, but they include drinking 'magic' ionized water, giving yourself shots of mistletoe juice and going to a quack in Texas who promises to realign the electrical field in your body so it can heal itself. It is sad to watch him die. Colon cancer when caught early (and his was), has a 90+% cure rate with surgery and chemo.

You need to dump that friend!

Saw challenger leave in January 86 if my memory serves and could see it explode from work in J’Ville after moving back from Ga. that sucked!

Yeah, I was there the day it happened. Everything just stopped, it was really surreal for a little while.

The day time stood still. I'll never forget it.

I started this early as hope it reminds some of the achievement all these men made right down to the janitor. Not including the wonderful Don Knotts. The men that were lost and the whole effort to do it!

I ran back in the showroom and changed the channel on the TV only to confirm what I thought I saw. Bad day!

My wife and I were watching on TV for Columbia to come in from the comfort of our bed and that was no better!

While I worked for Goodyear on San Juan ave in J’ville In the mid to late 80’s. There was a customer that religiously came by and was shuttle engineer. He drove an unassuming plain Jane Ford Fairmont and was always wonderful to talk to about the program. Never let him sit in the showroom and always talked while I serviced his POS.
