Aluminum that’s been painted

What should a guy use to clean painted aluminum parts, heads, valve covers, blocks. 526 wedge. Thanks. Kim

I'd use aircraft remover to get all the paint off then spray them down with aluminum mag wheel cleaner (acid) and pressure wash with water, you'll be amazed how bright the aluminum shines. Just be sure to put some sort of paint or coating on after that or they will get oxidized and stain wherever you touch them with bare hands.

Or are you just trying to clean the engine and leave the paint on?
 
I agree. Anyone can have bare aluminium. Yours is painted. That increases the value.

They make something to coat aluminum with to prevent that. Trying to recall the name of if it, it was shark something

Cool, I'm not familiar is it clear? Always wanted to clear-coat freshly acid-washed aluminum but I've heard all the typical spray-can stuff turns ugly over time. For my intake manifold I just coated it with aluminum-colored paint.
 
FWIW, soda blasting works great for removing paint from aluminum. Looks like new when done. I did my transmission recently just using a small hand-held blaster and soda.

It's clear. its like a one time applied thing, like a clear coat but its not paint.

a little bit. We used it on our exposed aluminum aircraft trim and other bare aluminum components for our SAR planes. What we did was polish up the stuff first with then apply this stuff and let it dry. Seemed to hold up pretty well. I don't recall re-applying it personally. nor can I say how well it'd do on high temp areas, say around the exhaust ports. But I plan on using it on my intake on my 440 and my water pump.

I'd be interested in how it holds up on an intake for sure.
