Is a '69 AMX considered a mopar A-body?

When I was a lot younger a mechanic told me that they called the company "American Motors" because they bought all the old stock from the Big 3. For a long time they ran the old Chevy front ends when Chevy had upgraded to ball joints from King Pins and at any given time you could find Chevy or Mopar engines and transmissions in them.
I heard that same explanation. But it's not that true. True they did use modules made by other manufacturers. But they were their own company. With no affiliations with the big 3. There has even been talk of a revival. (Rumors surface every 10 years or so.) I think there is opportunity for a revival if let's say the go "Green?" In the next 10 years battery technologies will make electric cars far too attractive to ignore. I know these are not the best forums to discuss alternative technology. But electric performance and efficiency is not that easy to ignore.
