I put together a 71 Duster with a 5.9 magnum basically duplicating the 360/380 crate engine. Its a 98 360 that is .030 over with stock replacement pistons. I'm running a .028" thick head gasket. 380 hp camshaft 501/513 hydraulic roller . M1 single plane intake. Hooker competition headers through flow master knock offs and turn downs at the axle. Holley 750 DP. Turbo Action 3800 stall converter. 727 with Cheetah reverse manual valve body. 8 3/4 with 4.30 gears. M&H Racemaster tires 275/60/15 in the rear with front runners. Car is pretty much a stocker except for no back seat.
My expectations are 11.90-12.40 range.
I used to run this car many years ago with same converter/trans/gears but I had a stock low compression 360 truck motor with stock X heads and a 525 solid lifter camshaft and it ran a best of 12.51 @ 107.
Just wondering if my expectations might be a little high?

Go run it and see! I think you're about right with your guesstimates.

Seriously? Go run YOUR car! Go have fun and see what YOUR CAR will do.

If you just GOTTA KNOW what somebody else's car did......I had a 65 Valiant years ago similarly set up. Stock strike 360, hot 904 converter stalled "about 3600" and 4.30 gears. Best I got out of it was 11.40s.

Yeah pretty serious.......I'll run my car when I get it finished.....in the mean time I'll ask what others have experienced....doesnt seem harmful

The biggest enemies your going to face obtaining the time or quicker will hooking up and ACTUAL car weight.

I have spoke to a number of guys that have used the MP create engine in a drag only car. Dusters seemed most popular, anyway... The general range was from 12.7 - 12.0 but quicker when the car was a Dedicated tray car completely got it with a lot of lightweight parts. How far you want to take this, is completely up to you. I don’t know if this is a street car, street strip car, or just a drag car. And how far do you want to take that vehicle is a question for you to answer. I don’t know how you feel about spending a lot of money on fiberglass parts and getting rid of most of your interior.

Thanks for the reply. The interior of the car retains the original heater box still. I am running bucket seats and console in it but no back seat. So it’s still inline with factory weight I suppose.
I’ve done a few test hits with the car on the street and hit hooks pretty well.
The engine revs pretty quick to 5500 but falls a little flat beyond that. Seems pretty normal compared to dyno results of that engine. It’s defininetly a different animal compared to the LA 360 that used to reside between the fender wells.

I have a 73 Duster that used to have a 380hp crate motor in it. It had a 9 inch converter, 3.91 gears, Holley 750dp, and a race weight of 3310lbs. The best it ran was 12.30's.
thanks for replying. That type of ET is what I am expecting and would be happy with. Just curious, what was the shift point on your engine? Mine revs quick to 5500 but falls flat after that.

Very nice!

So your a little heavy. Not really a big deal. The one thing I noticed about the 360/380 is that it ether could use ported heads and/or a RPM intake. I don’t think the as cast stock heads are doing the engine any favors power wise.

Mine pulled easily to 6000 and beyond. I contacted Mopar Performance and they told me that 6500 was the redline for that motor. I found my best et's shifting at 6000.
I must have an issue with mine then. Gets to 5500 really quick but seems very slow after that. I’ve checked my fuel system and it seems to be up to par

For comparison;
I had a similar combo with the 292/292/108 cam, and OOTB Eddies. I ran 1.6 arms so the lift was calculated at .543. Street car
That thing came alive starting at 5200 and didn't know when to quit. It was a real ripper with a 4-speed. I ran it with 3.55s to hit 60mph at ~7200 at the top of first gear. It would bark the street tires on the 2-3 shift at 80mph and jump ahead, like somebody kicked it in the rear..
In the end it was too much cam for the application.
No timeslips.

Hard to say what it will run with it going flat after 5500 as with your 4.30's, a race weight of approx 3350? and a 27" tyre?...and an approx 360fwhp your tckt could like something like this?>

60 Foot E.T. : 1.70
1/8 Mile E.T. : 7.73
1/8 Mile Trap Speed : 87.93
1/4 Mile E.T. : 12.25
1/4 Mile Trap Speed : 109
1/4 Mile Trap RPM : 5,857+slip

The Division 1 , NHRA crate motor class in Stock Eliminator are running mid to high 11's, STOCK !
I spoke to one racer who bought a couple and took them apart to loosen up the clearances a little and to improve the oiling system . GOod luck !

Running a 28” tall tire but all that looks pretty accurate
