So I'm not gonna start a pissing match with anybody but, I know of a few cars that just sit and I think it's a shame. It is his business, his cars but, it bothers me to see. He has some pretty valuable stuff in decent shape that has been sitting in buildings since the 80's. All original Q5 Hemi Charger, 70 six pack sunroof Charger with every available option built for the auto shows in 69, were talking power roof, power windows, power seats...everything!! He also has the only 4spd Q5 Daytona Charger made, the other 3 were automatics. He has all kinds of parts and, other cars. He is getting older and will never do anything with his stuff, it's sad to me but it is his stuff. He will occasionally sell something but, not very often. He has been good to me over the years treating me right on parts when I need them. There is so much stuff in his buildings you almost cant walk through and, cant hardly see the cars. Me and some friends have offered to go out and help clean up and, organize so he can get around the buildings but he never takes us up on the offers. This will be one of those car auctions one of these days when he passes away as he has no children. I couldn't afford most of his cars even if he decided to sell but, I still think it's a shame.

There is also a guy a couple miles from me who has a 68 R/T Charger just sitting in his yard. It has been there for years. The car used to be brown but, a few years ago he built a make shift paint booth around it in the yard and, rattle canned it blue. Car looks very solid, it's sad to see it sitting there. I called the guy one time and asked about the car and he was kind of a dick bag about it. "That cars worth 50 grand restored" and, I said maybe but it's not restored...he says" you wouldnt give me what I want for it" and, I said "try me". He never would put a price on it...so it sits and sits...his car, his business but, it's still sad.

I would kill to have some of these cars and, there just gonna sit until death do they part!!! Its frustrating for us who have the skill to do something with these types of cars and, enjoy them but, cant get a hold of just one of them.

Just my 2 cents

Hell, I couldn’t care less when people won’t sell. It’s all good by me. There’s probably a reason, even if it’s only to say “I have a........”. Good for them. It’s theirs. When they die the kids will probably sell the remains for penny’s on the dollars or less. Or maybe it will be a county clean up. Oh well. Who am I to judge what their choices, decisions or life problems have resulted in? Not my business, not my concern. If anything I feel for them because I know they probably really would like to build it but for some reason, or reasons, they can’t.
Enjoy the chat with them, make a note and record the address.
Then keep on looking is all I do. It’s all in the hunt for me anyway!
I’ve seen some pretty nice stuff corroded away too, but I live in an area that did that to cars. It just doesn’t bother me..............too much!

PS: pretty poor choices in that “poll” up there.
I couldn’t choose any because apparently there are only 4 answers..........and I don’t agree with any of them. You need a fifth choice.
“I couldn’t care less.” :)

These cars were made in the tens if not hundreds of thousands. There are more waiting to be discovered, so why worry so much about one copy that you can't get.

I know of a few cars locally that the owners just won't sell. Example is a 75 duster 360, original 360. I asked twice and twice the guy told me to bug off.

I kept kicking the bushes and I found and I currently have a 74 dart sport 360, yep original 360.

The duster is still there but I couldn't care less about it or the owner because I already found my car.

My dart sport was going to get parted out and scrapped, so I saved it. I even had to pay more because the seller of my dart sport told me the numbers 360 was sold but still in the car. So I had to pay a few hundo more to convince him to keep the numbers engine with the car. End of the day, everyone's happy

I have saved more than a few. I feel it is a shame when they go to nothing, but this is America. I also agree that many times it is how people are approached that can make all the difference. There is an old guy near me that has a pristine 1958 Chrysler 300. 392 Hemi, 2 four barrels, leather interior, big fins and all. I stopped and talked to him one day and quickly thought to myself, there is no way he is going to sell that car. He just lit up when we talked about it. We are now friends and go to car shows together occasionally. In the end, it is their car and their money, or lack of it. Happy Hunting.

I agree a car is the owner's property and they can do whatever they want with it. Thank God for that freedom, because that means I can do what I want with mine. It does bother me a little when I see one that could be saved goin to hell in a handbasket that the owner won't sell for one reason or another. Like Rani said though, there's another one down the road somewhere. Plus, when that one that owner wouldn't sell rots to the point of no return, that makes the value of all the rest go up just a little. I think we all share the passion for this hobby and it hurts a little when we see one in that condition.

I agree there is always another car to be found. I love the hunt. I will not buy any car unless I really want to own that car, but knowing I have never had a "forever keeper" either. So I have to buy that project at what that project is worth $ and cents. If and no doubt when I decide to let it go, I do not intend to be in the hole. I t can be hard to find a decent project priced fair.
I had a friend now deceased back in Mo. a lifelong Mopar and mainly a 65 Dart guy. He was a packrat for anything 65 Dart wise. He was an old guy (like me). He was single. I had bought a few Dart projects off him over some years at fair prices. They have anyways been cheap back there. He had a room in his little house, parts piled to the roof. He had restored 273 Dart hardtop and a 273 Dart Vert roller just a painted shell. He said he wanted to just sell everything, for $30,000. I told him I dobted if he would ever sell it all to anyone in one lump, and not for that $.. Best to sell the cars, and then sell off the parts however , and if someone wants all is parts in a lump, they would only give pennies on the if they were into the old parts business.
He passed away and his nephew that was always going over there and stealing what he needed for is stuff! That same worthless nephew,... got it all.
He died one morning, and the place was picked clean that afternoon!

In 1982 I started a Mopar parts business . I have just about seen it all . Not only in the Mopar hobby but in life . I have always tried to treat people fairly and with respect . In my dealings with people I have found that people with the resources to restore a car/truck/boat/airplane , name do not mind paying a fair price . It's the cheap , b.s., arrogant ones that I can't stand . We call them "woodboogers" up here . They want something for nothing and change back too . In the next town from me there's a man with 16 Mopars , 2 Ramchargers and a 2500 rotting into the ground . Lives alone in a ship container with no indoor plumbing . A real f.a.. So what , he'll die and he'll take it all with him . Rant finished , thank you for your attention . Tom

Better sitting in a field than crushed.. thanks for doing this. You probably kept a lot of other cars on the road.
Thanks.
I believe i have done the right thing.
As a matter of fact, the Dart Sport in my build thread below is proof of a car that is put together from parted cars and whatever i had laying around with of course some new parts for safety reasons etc.
That's why i named the build thread ''I'm going to fix it up someday, The resurrection of a '74 Dart Sport'' as a bit of tongue in cheek to people that think that these cars will never be worked on, saved, and put on the road........
As for the other comment you made about the way slushy snow and ice affect cars, i totally agree.
Where i have my cars stored, the weather can get like that too, but in my experience, the cars that rust has already taken a foot hold in will deteriorate further rust wise, and the not very rusty ones like Rainy mentioned she has are hardly affected at all.
Thanks for your insight..........

Thanks for your advice.
The car in question was an old race car that someone did a terrible back half job to.
I did however, have a perfect rust free rear floorpan, frame rails, trunk, etc. to properly fix it.
The car was raced from the mid '70s to the late '80s.
Not a rusty car at all.
'69 Barracuda Formula S 340 console auto Fast Back.
Has all of the body numbers, fender tag and dash with the V.I.N. still in place and they all matched.
No drive train except for a narrowed 9'' and was a roller.
Not worth $500.00?
You don't know how many ads and phone calls i made as well as e-mailing pictures etc. that i did to try to sell the car over the course of 2 years.
I just got tired of it and parked it in the back 20.
Since then i have traded it to a friend of mine for another car.
Junk for junk.

I have over 40 cars left on my property.
Most of them are in a field and i monitor them somewhat regularly for deterioration etc.
Most of them haven't changed much in 30 years other than paint fade.
90% of them are parts cars only that i saved from a local junk yard that was crushing them out in the early '90s.
They would have all been gone back then, and i gave them a chance to be saved, or at least some parts used to save others before they are crushed.

So, my point is, don't judge people and their cars.
You don't know the whole story, and if you do, it's literally none of your business what they do.
Ask whatever price you want, it's your car.
Do what you want with your car, it's your car.
Period.

In fact, by reading between the lines on your posts in this thread and by direct comments you have made, you started this to piss people off and to see what the reactions were for your own entertainment.
And you deliberately used a member's car for sale on here to piss him off too.
Who the hell do you think you are? The morality police?

It's laughable that one of your signatures is ''don't feed the troll'' when that's what this thread is all about.
You and your trolling.

Again, thanks for your advice.
Doent matter how many times you try to tell someone... they only hear/read what they wanna here/read.

Look here my not so much friend... you and the others that flipped out and took it personal are what's wrong with our country and this hobby. As a matter of fact... you are the very trolls I speak of in my signature. Doh.... it is your bunch who seeks to be offended, and that's the real sad part...you return to the thread multiple times lingering for more to get upset about. Honestly at this point . idgara...and really.. neither should you. Dont waste anymore time in this thread. Go enjoy your insecure self and your rotting 40 cars in the field.

Never heard of a "woodbooger" but I bet its dartnuts middle name.

I have a friend 5 hours away. He has been in the old car salvage business for decades. If he gets a car in that is restorable, he sets it aside and will offer it to sell for a fair price. He could get more $ eventually selling off parts of it.
Then there is the kid's grand dad 30 mi away that has pasture full of old cars and they been sitting there for decades. The kid has tried to get the old man to sell off the restorable cars, but it is the old " I ain't gonna sell for them nothing!" deal!!! The old fart will eventually die and the kid will get what has not rotted into the ground, if any.
I have projects, parts, and don't really care.

Can't deny any of the points you made.
Rational. True.

Precisely.
And people here are bothered with you for being bothered by that.

Yea.

Wow! I think it's apparent that you are the upset one here. Public forum remember? Not everyone shares your opinion or cares either.

Wow! I think it's apparent that you are the upset one here. Public forum remember? Not everyone shares your opinion or cares either.

Now you need to stop and think about that for a minute...
You've followed, read , and liked and agreed with all the little group of arguing haters posts.... and you're saying what now?
Stop stalking the thread bro.

Pretty simple. You started a thread with "your opinion" on an open forum. I "don't think" it was a poll until later on when some disagreed with you and posted "their opinions". Then you made it into a poll that says, "If you don't agree with me 100%, you're an idiot." I could be wrong, the poll could have been from the start, but I don't think so. You also called people who have sentimental value "retards". Really? I think you are getting a little too worked up over nothing. Hey that's my opinion, in an open forum. :)

I don't need to think about anything, I know what my opinion is, and it is not the same as yours. So I must be a sheeple, by your poll. Or, I simply just don't give a rats ***, about somebody else's property.

You're coming at this from the wrong end of it as if I'm arguing somebody doesn't have the right to do that I'm saying it sucks to see it and if you can't understand that then there's a problem with your cognitive thinking. And that's why "hell no" is winning and there's only about five or six likes , including your own, on any one of those flame posts.

Have a great day and I'm glad you dont agree with something not even in question here... :poke: fwiw

There is no problem with my thinking. I read very well. I understand what everyone here wrote and said. Everyone, and some people decided they needed to insult others because they disagree.

Have a nice day yourself.

Not your cognitive thinking, just the ones who keep on even after its cleared up. They need help and new undies...However.. I do think after this thread and the amount of assasination attempts.... that I'll 'try' and only post tech threads anymore.
I forget that old grudges die hard.

Lately I have seen more muscle cars pop up for sale that have been lost to rot from lack of proper storage, lack of money...or even lack of interest in restoring the car...yet they hang on to them and turn down offers...saying how they're gonna restore it.
Some of these people even think someday some city slicker or tv car show guy will show up and A. Restore it for them ... or B. Hand out some stupid high cash offer for it.
Then there are the retards.... it was my sons, hes dead... so itll rot in the yard till its dust. Wtf... fix it... in honor/remembrance of him...he'd probably want that instead of it as a rusted weed covered pile of forgotten crap in the yard.

It's really hard 'for me at least ' to not wanna tear into and berate these people who post sale ads of rotted 340 cars for letting them rot to crap.. and for asking too high a price that it will most certaily end up a parts car or recycled.By the time they finally let it go... its fricking junk with 65%-80% nothing but rust holes...

[FOR SALE] - 1969 Swinger "340" and parts car

At least he acknowledges what he did.... but still makes me sick!!
Store it properly or sell it to someone who can!! You cant take it with you, and you arent gonna get a dime for it if its junk.

This is for all the guys who would love to have/buy and or have been looking for a decent numbers project and goes out to all the backwoods autowreckers ,people in general, and weirdo family's who just let everything go to **** in the side yard and still expect top dollar when/if they do sell.
If you arent one of those people who let's them rot...then this is not aimed at you. Its beyond a hobby at a certain point... its historical preservation of our American heritage.
I don’t like it one bit. And voted as such

That said, technically it is that persons car and they can do as they wish with it. There is a a big block ford mustang sitting up to the doors in mud near me. Owner is the father of a guy who got drafted in Vietnam and was MIA. Never will sell the car. Though he will talk a lot about it. I think he’s holding out hope that his son comes walking out of that jungle... still

I have a Mustang story too. The brother of a friend used to have a 65 Mustang 2+2 fastback, 289HP 4 speed car. Yup. It was worth a lot. Guy kept getting in trouble with the law. Got in trouble in the military and ended up in Leavenworth a short time. His dad took the car away from him, disabled it, put it up on blocks and let rot for 30 plus years. This was a grown man we're talkin about here. Just couldn't stay away from the drugs and thug life. His dad held out hope that one day they'd do a "father son" kinda restoration thing. It was "about" 2004 I think the dad finally saw it wasn't happenin when "his now" forty something son bashed in a lady's door with her home and stole her tv for drug money. That was the straw that broke the camel's back and he took the car to a local salvage yard his friend owns. Yup. He owns a crusher too. He sold the car for scrap and stood there and MADE SURE they crushed it. Gone. End of story. Although the floors were rotted pretty much gone, there was enough there to save the car. Still had the original drive train. But pappy wasn't happy and it came to an ugly end. They still don't speak to this day.
