340 smoking out left exhaust only

Well got it figured out when I had the engine built two years ago I didn’t want 10:1 I wanted 9.5:1 or a little less. So we went to a thicker Cometic head gasket to get it to 9:5.1 and it blew the gasket in between the push rods on cylinder 7.

Cylinders 3,5 are about to blow and 7 is blown

Pretty unusual for that to happen with an MLS gasket.

At least you know what it is now.

Pics of the gaskets when they’re out?

Do the block and heads have the recommended fine finish for that type of gasket?

I kind of wonder if the Cometic gaskets didn't get installed.

It probably doesn’t pertain to you, but I had an issue where the outboard rivet on my cometic gasket was getting pinched between my x head and a protrusion that is right in the center of my 360 block. I just drilled out the rivet and no issues, but if I didn’t catch it, it would have been unpleasant.

I got it apart and here is the the gasket it a fel pro 8553 pt. So it didn’t have Cometic gaskets after all

Actually glad to hear this outcome. I just installed a thinner cometric to increase comp. So far no issue. But haven’t put the boot to it yet.
