Hello,

I am a new member, and I am originally from Norway, and I am now 57 and lives in northern California. When I was 19 I was in the military, and I bought a 1965 Dodge Dart 170 station wagon, with a 170 cu.in. slant six. The most worn engine I have ever come across, the car had started it's life as a taxi cab in rural southern part of Norway, and I was in the south in the military for the first 3 months, boot camp I think you call it. After that I drove it to northern part of Norway, late march, winter and snow. The engine ran smoother than a cat can purr, and I got exellent gas mileage. In the middle of Sweden bad luck struck, a grader had gone over the road to smoothen it up, and that was fine, except it had also had the blade so far out in the snow that there was no road under. So, I got my right front wheel out there, and the car was off the road, probably 40-50 feet. No traffic, it was cold, and no one there. After a while a little truck from the local power company came, and hauled me back on the road, and I opened the hood. I could see the outlining from the underside of the hood in the snow that now covered the entire engine room, and I was in the middle of a curve. Luckily I had tools with me, loosened the alternator so the fan belt was loose, and started and drove some hundred yards where I was safe to stop and found a little branch from a tree and started digging out the engine, and getting rid of the snow. It probably took me an hour, and after that I continued driving all the way hom. I had so much fun with this car, it was a dream to own and use. I had it until 1987 when I could not get some parts for the parking brake, and ended up buying a 1971 Torino. That worked too, but I had more enjoyment and fun with the Dart station wagon.

So, now being here in California, with a wife who drives a 06 Dodge Charger Daytona I have started looking for an old Dart again. I have a 04 Grand Marquis, it is a sweet car, engine runs great, good gas mileage, but it is stiff on the springs. It serves my transportation needs, but I am a fellow who also like enjoyment when I drive, does not have to be a big engine, or speed, or even only 2 doors. I do not get the 4 year old kid in a candy store look in my eyes with the Grand Marquis when driving it, but I know a 65 Dart would bring that out.

I hope I get lucky.

Welcome. There are a few members in your area. Might look for the location section on the forum and post there as well. Might can make a few new friends in person. You never know.

Welcome! Do you have a budget for the possibility of coming across another dart wagon? Are you looking for a project or something restored?

Photos will come when I get it home. Well well, a wagon, that would be something. As for a project, I can not have that here. I can only do minor stuff since we live in the city, or the outskirts. Still wayyyyyyyyyyy too much neighbors for me. I grew up 100 yds from the ocean in northern part of Norway, an old half deserted fishing village. So, I feel extremely uncomfortable living like this. The car I have bought need some minor things, that I know off. Who knows when I get it home.

The right front door armrest is missing. I need an original steering wheel, not been able to find that anywhere yet. And I have already ordered door seals from Rock Auto. And, the car does not have the molding on the front edge of the hood, and around the headlamps that also goes under the grill. All that is gone.

Welcome to FABO!! Didn't take you too long to find your next Mopar!!

Well, I have been looking for years, and felt I could not have a hobby car here, no place to park it except out in the street. Then this car showed up, and I was struck by something. I could not take my eyes of it. I have been looking at parts for a Dodge on various sites, and I have not looked for any Mopar parts since 1987, and now I am so surprised so many of the arts are still around and even better than in 1987. And so many of them fit other Dodges, or Chrysler products. And my stepson has a 72 Challenger, and my wife a 06 Daytona, and now she tells me, oh, Barracudas are so much better looking than Challengers, well, that is her preference. LOL, so who knows where this is going to end. And Ford does not make one single vehicle anymore that I can drive, bad seats, and cramped inside and I have for some peculiar reason developed claustrophobia, and managed to get myself into a brand new Camaro at a dealer a few months ago, and had to use all my willpower not to panic. <laughing>. So those new cars with a huge console in the middle, especially tall, like the Ford Taurus, that is a huge no no for me. Then it is back to older cars. And I sit with a feeling that Dodge is a better car than Ford. And the torsion spring suspension is very comfy.

Sound like you need to visit coeur d'alene, Idaho. Beautiful lake and fairly quiet.

I'm done with city living myself. Hopefully I'll never need to move back, but I know that's where the jobs are.

Welcome from the frozen tundra! I love Norway, as a Marine we got to hang out there one time for a bit. The King came out to meet the "fun" guys! They moved us out to a more reasonable location and he swing thru and shook hands. It was totally cool. I still have a picture of that around here somewhere. We were told no pictures, period, what so ever so my picture has 1/2 of my spotters rucknsack in it! I used him as my blind. The King was very cool.

Hi there. Do you know of any scrap yards not too far away where it is possible to find used parts for for example 1965 Dodge Dart ?
Not that I’m aware of. But to be honest I’ve only been to one in the last year or so. It didn’t have anything that I remember. Would think the Sacramento or maybe San Jose area might have something. Most of the used parts I picked up for mine came from this site or on Craig’s list.

Awesome! We'd love to see some photos as soon as possible. (We are photo junkies here....!)

Yeah, the photos. The car came today. Me happy boy now. :) Sending 2 pics. The new paint is ok, or fine, but not a show paint, far from. But, for a car to enjoy driving a couple of times a week or so it is fine.

Welcome from Upstate NY, nice looking Dart! Didn't take long to find one.

You are both welcome. And all the way from upstate New York ! I have a dream, yeah, who said that... lol. To visit the New England area and upstate New York. It would remind me of Norway I think.

There is more or less always a Dart for sale, and this one has an amateur paint job, but it is fine for using the car a couple of times a week. Cars does not like to sit on their behinds all year. New carpet, new upholstery, new brakes, new gas tank, new voltage regulator and alternator. Engines rattles quite a bit from the bottom, I wonder if someone has filled 5W-20 synthetic oil on the engine and that makes it rattle. Oil is somewhat dark. The left under dash vent door is gone bye bye, so during the transport on the trailer the entire interior was filled with bits and pieces from you know where. It has brand new tires too. But only every other or third light bulb works. :)
It needs oil here and there, things are squeeky dry and noisy.
