1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

Found the lower limit, sweet spot and the upper limit to the grinding on the metering valve. We got about 15F cooler with this modification. Now to see if working some of the details can bring it down any more. Outlet of the evaporator is about 40F-45F when it was 85F out last night. It was at ~55F. Going in is still quite warm so the average across the evaporator is not where the Coronet it yet.
I believe 40 to 50 degrees is about right coming out of the vents so your just about right on with your mods. Don't know how much more "souping it up" you can do at this point. Lol.

What are the hi and lo side pressures and how much refrigerant are you running?
Are you putting a fan in front of the car to blow through the condenser while your testing?
Just askin....

20PSI Low 190 High. Just short of 2 cans. Yes I know the math does not work out for super heat but the pressures go through the roof if I put that much in.

Poorly. These system take 2 lbs 14 oz of R12 so just short of 3 cans of R134a should be perfect. The Coronet has just short of 3 cans in it to get similar pressures.

It was probably discussed and I missed it but if the performance of R12 would have got you frosty why did you just obtain R12 and go that route? Recently I have run up on some and was surprised how affordable it was as compared to 10 years ago....

My Coronet is converted to R134a is will create icicles from the dashboard.

Interesting.... the "daily driver Duster"..... Monsoons have started and there are thunderstorms around. Kaelyn has canceled the trip to the car show tonight because it might rain.....

How how much work it takes to create a nice show car changes ones outlook a bit I guess!

Your heels are dug in deep then lol.... You will figure it out I am sure.....

You will never know how much money I have spent trying to understand why one works SO GOOD and one works SO BAD when they are 98% the same!

Oh it's gotten personal with you and the A/C and it's got you in a headlock lol..... I suspect you find enjoyment in solving the problem and then telling the story.... Because you will figure it out no doubt.

Ok decided on just short of 2 cans of freon and wrapped everything with gummy tape.

Went for a short drive last night but wanted to drive it today in the middle of the day. The Wife, oldest daughter and I stole it and went to town for Ice Cream while Kaelyn was at a birthday party!

Results. It will blow 45F on low and 55F on high. Is that great?... not really... Is it enough? It was 99 in town and it worked well enough that we were not sweating. With a cloud cover it was very comfortable. In the sun I wished for another 5F-10F cooler... Not sure if I will work it much more soon. I think it gets colder idling than on the road so it may just a shot of freon but we need to drive it and see how it works in the real world.

Bottom line is I had to grind 0.005" to 0.010" off the back of the metering pin then filled it with 2 cans of R134a plus insulating everything as seen above.

Also last night the monsoons are here so the AC box was sweating (it was great that it was cooling below the dew point of 50F!) and I did not have the drip hose restored yet so it dripped on the passengers floor. A little weatherstrip goop last night worked great to reconnect the two pieces and bridge the gaps where the plastic as missing (I don't have a shot before I gooped it). This morning I used Plasti-dip as a final coat. I used this combination to repair the AC box door actuators as well that were leaking vacuum, it works great and the Plasti-dip puts a nice smooth finish on it...

Then I shot it with Herb's adhesion promotor and charcoal black dye. I really like this stuff....

Lastly a bit of 3M caulking (dum-dum) so it won't leak in the cabin and installed...

The wife told me today she was doing some mediation exercises and they wanted to you image grabbing the steering wheel of your dream car and drive it... She said the car was a '68 Barracuda Convertible.... I think the iron is HOT!

Mamma has spoken. We will be visiting my A-Body drug dealer in a few weeks with a wad of cash making a deal on a '72 TorRed Demon roller with the parts to put it back to original. 340, 4 speed and factory 8 3/4" rear end..... She wants it to be Sassy Grass Green.... I will be trying to talk her into keeping it Red...

Oh, I get that. Been married 33 years. Plans are soft till your on your way home.

Lightning does strike twice..... I just happened upon a survivor '63 Dart ragtop that was found in the same small town my Coronet was. He wants a perfectly fair price and we plan to hand him the cash as soon as I can get to the bank and get it in his hand. We can drive it home!

Nice Dart conv! If you're gonna drop a small block in it, Lee Robinson has a firewall you will need for sale in Exterior parts for sale. Of course....the buzzin half a dozen souped up some makes a nice cruiser. :)
