I'm sure somewhere this question has been asked in some form. My wife has found a 2008 Srt8 hemi orange automatic transmission with 44,000. Clean carfax, runs out well. She is wondering if it's an all weather year round driver or if she should plan on cruising one of our beater cars or trucks in the fall/winter season. We do not get much if any snow, but alot of rain and occasional freezing weather. So on those days with ice I would probably have her drive something else. But overall do they do okay for wet weather traction? Driving style considering of course. We had a wicked Ls Camaro convertible, manual that she drove year round in snow, ice, rain better than I could. She has already contacted the seller on it, our insurance company to check quotes, same as we pay on our kia. Lol, actually $25 less a month then our kia. So she is absolutely serious about getting it, just curious as to what some of you have experienced with it as a daily/year round driver.

Its all on the driver.

I daily drove my dart, 365 days a year for years in the snow. Can it be done? Sure. Is it ideal... probably not..
Is it super stressful, yup. Would i do it now. No.
Buy a beater subi (or one of the beaters you have) and save the rearwheel drive v8 for when its nice out.

Or dont, let her drive what she wants. Thats up to her.

I personally think that a rig with less power, and value is the best option for inclement weather. But I know with 6 months of rain, she is going to want to cruise it more than half the year. Lol, driving a kia soul daily now for the last 3 years the biggest shock may be actual in town daily driving gas milage. I could see that being a reason for her to cruise something to go to work daily. Lol which means it would be available for me to drive more. Though cant really haul much more than groceries in it. Definitely no hay bales. I'm just excited about the real possibility of getting an srt8 car.

I had a work car a 5.7 hemi charger (i think? 5.7 sound right? Your version is what 6.1?) and if it snowed or had ice with automatic it was next to worhless.... granted i did not use snow tires or chains but basically by the time you babied it to go it would just start spinning.

Long story short protect the driver and use whatever else you have amd enjoy the hell out of it the rest of the year.
Rain etc seemed fine.

Yes, it is the 6.1 or 6.2 I believe. I think the little ranger with sand bags in the bed over the axle would be a great rig for that. Its worth like maybe $1000, gets 22mpg. I would say our 86 bronco 4x4, but she has to park underground in a tight spot against a pillar. Which the bronco steering isnt that tight.

Your inbox is full or i would explain further.

It really sounds fun though!

I have no doubt she can handle it. Lol, her first car was a 71 cuda, then a firebird, then Ss Camaro, with a couple beaters in between them. When we had kids that grew out of some of them. The Kia was really just a commuter that could haul our great dane as well. She finally said, "we can haul him in your 4 door truck, he fits it better anyway." So, I said, "I agree", plus I'm retired and on the farm all day everyday. So he can hang out in the shop with me and if I go haul hay, lumber or cars he can ride in the backseat of the truck. So, if we can get the stars lined up, get what we want out of our Kia(we arent expecting much) and the car is as advertised. I think she will be driving it next week. She told our adult kids, no, dont ask, you are not going to be driving it anywhere. They were a little hurt, lol.

Tell her go for it. I daily drove my 65 Dart in Springfield here a few winters only few days didn’t wanna drive in weather.

My Hellcat is a lot less squirrely in wet weather than my '71 Superbee was - no experience in snow/ice, though
Traction control and ABS are pretty amazing

That is true, we have come along way in that respect for greater control with more power. Lol, I had a 5.7 hemi challenger for three weeks one summer as a rental car. Got a speeding ticket on my way home from the enterprise rental place the day I picked it up as a rental while my truck was in the body shop from a guy plowing into the back of it. My wife drove the rental daily for the whole time without one issue. Which I am reminded of often.

Happy wife, happy life. If she wants it, let her get it.
I absolutely agree. Plus, it doesn't hurt to think of it as a possible future drivetrain for an A-body down the road. Lol. Possible I say, not wanting it to get wrecked of course. I'm sure it is said by many people in many states. But alot of Oregon drivers are head up the butt drivers, no common courtesy or respect for their fellow drivers. No turn signal using swerve in front of a person while on their cell phones. Red light running fools.

I couldn’t agree more Oregon drivers are the worst. Seems like the red light running has gotten so bad just within last 10 years.

My wife daily drives a 2012 5.0 mustang in Winnipeg.. she has never had a single issue with winter driving it. She put remote start in it so it’s warmed up before she even gets into the car, I have tried to talk her into a 4wd suv and she has no interest.

It really comes down to what tires are on it. When I got my Charger it had a summmer only Firestone tire on it. Didn’t handle the snow at all and easy to break loose in the rain. Have a set of continentals on it now and it is fine.

This... I had a friend with a 1994 5.0 Mustang, you could not drive it in any snow because of the old bald Falken summer performance tires it was pretty scary and dangerous. But my Duster drives great in snow, I guess I just got lucky with the tread pattern and compound on my Firestones. Both RWD V-8 automatic cars of course.

Well we just took it for a drive. Fun, fast, gas guzzling badass. Driving it home today.

You said little to no snow in the winter. Id make sure it doesn't have a summer tire on come winter time and just drive it.

They are just summer tires, they just put new ones on it. Need to find another set of wheels to put some all season tires or something like that on.
