1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

Ok decided on just short of 2 cans of freon and wrapped everything with gummy tape.

Went for a short drive last night but wanted to drive it today in the middle of the day. The Wife, oldest daughter and I stole it and went to town for Ice Cream while Kaelyn was at a birthday party!

Results. It will blow 45F on low and 55F on high. Is that great?... not really... Is it enough? It was 99 in town and it worked well enough that we were not sweating. With a cloud cover it was very comfortable. In the sun I wished for another 5F-10F cooler... Not sure if I will work it much more soon. I think it gets colder idling than on the road so it may just a shot of freon but we need to drive it and see how it works in the real world.

Bottom line is I had to grind 0.005" to 0.010" off the back of the metering pin then filled it with 2 cans of R134a plus insulating everything as seen above.

Also last night the monsoons are here so the AC box was sweating (it was great that it was cooling below the dew point of 50F!) and I did not have the drip hose restored yet so it dripped on the passengers floor. A little weatherstrip goop last night worked great to reconnect the two pieces and bridge the gaps where the plastic as missing (I don't have a shot before I gooped it). This morning I used Plasti-dip as a final coat. I used this combination to repair the AC box door actuators as well that were leaking vacuum, it works great and the Plasti-dip puts a nice smooth finish on it...

Then I shot it with Herb's adhesion promotor and charcoal black dye. I really like this stuff....

Lastly a bit of 3M caulking (dum-dum) so it won't leak in the cabin and installed...

This was the last baggie of parts to restore on the Duster!
