Hi guys! First of all I know it’s the wrong forum but I also know it’s the best MoPar forum on the web so I’ll try anyways!

My father has just bought a 1952 Chrysler Saratoga with 331 Hemi

And since we got a 4-barrel intake manifold with the car but nu carburetor I started wondering if it’s possible to change to 4-barrel and still keep the fluid drive working since it gets electronic signals from both vacuum and mechanical linkage on the present 2-barrel.. Anyone got any ideas?

Second question - Is there a good way of converting the car to 12V from 6V and still keep all the original equipment working? The biggest hurdles would be the blower motor and transmission solenoids, right?

Best regards, Emil

Well, I'll start. No specific knowledge, but newer 4-bbl carbs usually have several ports for various vacuum signals. I wouldn't think that vacuum signals would be an issue for your combo.

From what I can tell there is an extra vacum on the 2 barrel carb that operates an electrical switch which in turn tells a solenoid on the gearbox to open/close when it’s suppost to go into a lower gear

As you can se on the picture from the manual there’s an electrical contact point on the kickdown switch and one on the ”dashpot magnet”

Ill take a picture when I’m beside the car

Convert it ONLY if you have an OEM carb with all the accessories to do the switch. Can of worms if you cobble it together.

I would think that you could fabricate some kind of conversion to fit your transmissions needs, but that is way beyond me. Good luck.

electronics in 52? IIRC the electric contact is probably an overdrive cut out. Does the car have an overdrive trans? If thats the case, it may be done with a hobbs pressure switch or a microswitch on the carb, eg. like a nitrous switch setup.

here is some info..."The electric control system works off 2 wires connected to the coil. There are 2 switches built into the carburetor to control full throttle and closed throttle shifts. The wiring goes to the transmission which has a governor, a solenoid and a switch."...Good luck.

Had good luck with these 2 to 4 bbl adapters if you want to stay with your present 2 bbl manifold.

Is there a stock 4 barrel for this engine/transmission combo?

Thats actually a good idea, I’ll look into that!

Oh and by the way, is there any other brand of piston besides Egges that makes pistons for these early hemis?

There is an outfit in New Jersey that does but the name escapes me.

Custom pistons are always an option but are a bit pricey... Venolia did the pistons for the blown 354 I did a few years ago.

I've got a 331 out of a '52 also that I'm playing with. It's all tore down ready for machine work and parts (the Fluid drive I pulled is an interesting boat anchor). Egge is rather expensive but there's Hot Heads Research (who I thought picked up the ball from PAW) Hot Heads Research & Racing Early Chrysler Hemi Home and an outfit on Ebay called FalconGlobal that sells pistons and rebuild kits. I don't know where either of them source their parts from.
