Street driven car.

What is a good intake to use on the cheap??

A used Edelbrock Performer would fit the bill.

I was not aware of that

I didn't know there is a difference

Yes. There are three Performer intakes for the small block. The Performer, the Performer RPM and the Performer RPM Air Gap. Each one gets more expensive.....but can make more power. I believe you would be happy with a good used Performer.

Yep. Each steps up in rpm band. The Performer works good from idle to around 5500.

The Weiand Action Plus is another good choice, although usually a little tougher to find. With either intake, to run the little Edelbrock carburetor, you will need this. It's just a thin plate with gaskets that seals up the spread bore bulge in the intake. Some of Action Plus intakes are not spread bore, so in that case you would not need the plate.

I'll cast another vote for the action plus. Cast TQ intake will work as well using the same adapter that RRR posted

Most " entry level" aftermarket intakes flow no better or give better performance than a factory iron intake. The iron ones can be bought for 50ish, give or take a few bucks. The aluminum stuff is 150 at a minimum. Probably not a popular response, but, I don't like spending unnecessary coin.

ummmm.....no it won't. The bolt pattern is different, is it not? The TQ intake has only one bolt pattern, I believe, and it ain't the Edelbrock.

eddy carbs have both bolt patterns. I have a eddy bolted on my wifes ramcharger, and it's sitting on top of a '73 cast TQ intake

I would try and pickup an old 340 cast intake I got mine at a swap meet for 25 bucks they are still around inside them pop up on Ebay all the time.

The problem is 318 small port size.If you can find the old school small port used manifold (Lots of looking on the web) That would be your best bet.
Second The Edelbrock Performer as others have stated is a good one because they have smaller ports than the 340/360 manifolds.
The Edelbrock Performer are plentiful and used ones are many.I got mine for $100 new in the box at a swap meet.(Pictured) and is on my 318 with a 600 Edelbrock AFB.
BUT on the street it doesn't matter. I run a 360 spread bore factory intake with a Thermoquad on my truck's 318 and works just fine for driving around. Not looking for high RPM or horsepower. Just my thoughts.

Not all of um. I had one on my truck that didn't. It was an early 1406.

ok. But I'd say the norm would be to have both patterns on a Eddy carb. In fact, you'd probably look pretty hard to find one without both patterns.

You don't know the black cloud that hangs out over my head. I'll find every one of them sumbitches.

Another vote for the LD4B. It brings a lot to the party but may be a little hard to find. I sold a brand new Eddy performer because it had the larger secondary ports and I wanted the square port design
for my build. Using an Edelbrock 500 CFM AVS2 and I am very happy with the combo--------------

The LD4B is a great intake. She said "on the cheap". Anybody got a good LD4B on the cheap? Yeah I didn't think so.

You got that right. That's why I didn't mention it. Saw a nice one at Carlisle for $225 wondered why it was still sitting there.

Rainy, stay away from the China junk from Speedmaster. I got one of their knock-off Edelbrock air gaps. Air gap is right as in head to manifold gaps caused massive vacuum leaks. This is the one in this photo. I thru it right in the scrap metal bin I was so mad.

I saw that same one I bet. I turned it over and saw JB weld in a couple places.
